Do you bother peeling your potatoes? Use instant instead? Some kind of hybrid of whole potato and potato flour? The hell with peeling and leave the skin on? Do you buy peeled canned potatoes?

Is this trolling? This can't be a serious thread.

Really? I mean, even Desbruh posts more interesting discussions than this. So this has to be trolling, right?

Potato is an apt subject on CCS.

Is this a call-out thread?

Baking, broiling, frying, skin on.

Boiling, stewing, mashing, skin off.

Never canned, never flaked, no flour.

I prefer skin on for most potato applications. My wife peels them for mashing and she makes some really good mashed potatoes so I don't complain

Mash potato recipe.

Put 3-4 whole cloves garlic, peeled, in water with potatoes. Boil as usual. Drain, and mash garlic with potatoes. Add butter, salt and pepper to taste and a bit of milk for consistency and mix. Throw in 2-3 handfuls of babby spinach and mix.

Awesome, easy garlic spinach potato mash.

Instant potatoes offer 95% of the flavor of whole potatoes, and the nutritional differences are negligible. Plus, there's the added hassle and wasted time spent constantly buying fresh potatoes, deciding to peel or not, peeling if you choose that route, finding your peeler/cutting board/knife, boiling, cleanup, etc. Seriously, be wiser with your time, people.

Solid recipe for the "instant" connoisseurs out there;
-1 box Idahoan original instant mashed potatoes
-1.5 teaspoons of garlic powder
-3 generous squirts of I can't believe it's not butter! Spray
-dash of salt/pepper
-half cup of shredded government cheddar (optional)

Follow directions on box of Idahoan, and serve with a sprinkle of dried parsley flakes for color.

Sadly those instant spuds could never replace a good old fashioned baked potatoe.

Almost always use whole potatoes. If you boil them skin on and then run them under some cold water the skins will come off very easily. Just use a butter knife. I think I've made instant 3-4 times in the last 10 years, total.
