Can someone explain this to me? Intentional Grounding is a spot foul and loss of down. If he took a sack, wouldn't the ball be at the same spot and the same resulting down if the QB was sacked at that spot? If so, why don't quarterbacks just dump the ball and hope an eligible receiver is int he area? Better than a potential fumble, no? Am I missing something? If not, there should be at least 5 yards tacked on in addition to loss of down IMO.

What are your thoughts about this? Again, if I'm missing something pertaining to this, please point it out to me.

Again, if the grounding occurred 10 or more yards from line of scrimmage, that is the same as if he was sacked there, hence, IMO, no real penalty. IMO they should tack on 5 more yards from the spot.

Then they move the ball back 10 yards from the previous spot, hence, 10 yards minimum. I’ll take my thanks now.

I’m asking the OP. Which he would see how it’s not the same and he would know the difference. I’ll take my, “sorry, I misunderstood” now. Or whatever you got to say next. Don’t keep me waiting to long

Correct, if the qb is farther than 10 yards back from the los he might as well heave the ball, which is what Brees did.

Quote him then, I was answering your question, how was I supposed to assume all of that? Do you think I’m a genius like Ryan Pace? Making things so complicated, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Just trying to be helpful and get attacked, no good deed goes unpunished in this world!

Your question is stupid because the rule basically does exactly what he wants when within 10 yards, he just wants it to also tack on yards for throws beyond 10.

Happy now, and yes I do sincerely apologize.

I don’t have to quote shit. Just because you want me to and make it easier for you to comprehend? Try again. I’m waiting.

Well fine don’t quote and don’t articulate your thoughts in full. It’s your world, but you have to understand, simple people like myself may not fully grasp your wants and needs. That sir, is apparently a terrible thing.

Glad I’m not you. You must feel terrible about it. And no need to tell me. I know it’s my world. Just like everyone else thinks the same.

Sorry, I had to step away for a bit. I appreciate your prior response. I updated my prior response with, "Again, if the grounding occurred 10 or more yards from line of scrimmage, that is the same as if he was sacked there, hence, IMO, no real penalty. IMO they should tack on 5 more yards from the spot." I hope the update clarifies my issue it not really penalizing the quarterback.

How does even a thread like this manage to devolve into a typical CCS schoolyard scuffle? . .

Because most other penalties you replay the down.

A hold for example prevents a sack so why isn't that a loss of down. Instead the offense replays the down.

So the loss of down plus the minimum 10 yards is ample penalty because unlike other penalties there is no second chance.
