Just a few thoughts for everyone today.

Recently, my wife and I bought a sheltie puppy from a breeder in Indiana who does business just outside of Indianapolis. The dog is fantastic, and she even knows how to do a ton of tricks for being only slightly over 6 months old. Currently, she knows how to sit, lay down, speak, balance on her back legs, roll over, play dead, take a bow, and so on and so forth. A photo of her is here.

Anyway, for the second time in the last month, I stepped in a lovely pile of dog shit this morning when taking her outside before leaving for work. We live in an apartment complex located in Lafayette, IN as I am currently a grad student at Purdue University. I recognize that, living in an apartment community, you're probably always going to have to live with irresponsible neighbors. But for the love of God, not only does it seem that everyone in this community has a dog, it also appears as though not a single one of them, besides my wife and I pick up after it. As a result, I am forced to tip-toe through the grass in the morning, keeping my eye out for another animal's shit, in the darkness that dominates at 6am. What the hell, man?

The way I see it, if you think you're responsible enough to own a dog, you should damn well be responsible enough to pick up after it. The worst part? The bags for clean up and trash can are located DIRECTLY next to the area where all of the shit ends up being left on the ground.

Anyway, that's my rant. Anyone else have shitty neighbors?

HA. And the sad truth is, they too will suffer the consequences of those who could care less about picking up after themselves. Should I take photos/video when they come? :bizarro:

When I lived in Chicago, I lived on the far SW side of the city for a while...Very neat bungalows, and a spotless neighborhood..Every morning, the drunk who lived around the corner would walk his dog. And when he got to my front lawn, he would release the dog off the leash and let him shit on my lawn. I had one of the nicest lawns in the neighborhood cause Im anal in that respect. My house was always neat as a pin.. I caught his ass one morning and gave him hell..I actually threatened to kick his ass ( which I shouldnt have done)...Anyway, he got the message and never did it again. The point is...No matter where ya live, there is always an asshole around!

I have an idea, try using a sign in a ziplock bag politely requesting residents to utilize the provided clean-up items. Then if they choose to ignore it, you can get progressively nastier anonymously.

Even if they don't adhere, you'll still have the satisfaction of saying such things as:

Clean up your shit you F'in pigs!.:D

:D That's pretty funny. My dad was always the same way. Even though he didn't necessarily have the nicest lawn on the block, whenever anyone would decide it was okay to walk their dog on our property, the could be sure they would get an earful about it. I think it's pretty awesome that you threatened to kick his ass, he pretty much deserved it. I mean, was he just letting his dog do it on your lawn because you had the nicest one in the area?

This is a pretty good idea. I actually thought about drafting a letter and sticking it on the door of every tenant here in the complex, explaining what assholes I think they are. I'm holding off for now, but I'm also likely to be moving out within the next 5 months, so maybe I'll save it to the end.

Yeah, I had a really shitty neighbor once. Me, my brother and some other kids on the block made his [and his wife] life a living hell. He moved out after a couple of years.

He used to call the cops on us, even though we were kids, for the stupidest reasons. We played football on the street and the ball hit his car... called the cops. Played basketball and volleyball [sister and her friends] and the ball kept going in his yard. We asked for it back, he wouldn't give it to us... then called the cops cause we were annoying him. He even called the cops on people that visited us and other neighbors for not having a parking pass.

Needless to say, the cops were getting annoyed with him. Sometimes they actually never even showed up.

We started fucking with him big time.
We lit his garbage can on fire.
We put the sprinkler in the backyard while the wife was tanning in her yard. We made sure the water was getting back there.
We stole his mail and threw it in the sewer. I was funny watching the guy who mowed his lawn yell at him for not paying the bill and seeing my neighbor yell back at the guy who mowed his lawn about never getting the bill.
We keyed his car.
We blasted music when him and his wife were outside eating until they went inside.
egged his house occasionally.
etc.

Pretty sure some of that stuff is illegal... but we didn't care. The new neighbors are awesome though. So it was worth it.

I was at the far end of the block..I think it was just convenient for him..I dont think he put any thought into it

Let me guess. You're non-confrontational?

Most neighbors will try. You just gotta talk to them the right way, and I bet you'll see a difference quick.

Far from it. I have no problems bringing things up to people that bother me. The problem is, it's not just one person. It's seemingly EVERYONE that lives here, meaning, I'd have to literally create a conflict with everyone else in the community. So far I've been going through the property manager, but that has proved ineffective.

If you talk to them right, it wouldn't be seen as starting a conflict. :)

Fair play. I had considered just going up to every unit, knocking on the door, and asking whether the tenant has a dog. If so, I would simply remind them that, in order to keep the community a great place to live, they should be cleaning up after their pets. I figured this type of approach would be successful while also refraining from being hostile.

If you get someone else on your side of that argument, and use the right approach, you'll likely reduce the poop considerably.

You could even be sneaky, get some fliers printed on color paper that say something short and sweet(like "Be cautious of toxic grounds, dog-poop is not lawn fertilizer and causes this list of diseases for both people and your pets, please consider cleaning up after your dog, before the management decides to ban pets" reference to aid the list here) . I know its a time/cost out of your wallet, but it could be fun. Tape the flier onto every door, and leave it on your door for a day, so people think you also got the flier, just like they did. :shifty: It's not fun like going all out at the titty bar and getting smashed... but it's--its own type of entertainment to see how people react.

:D
