I cannot understand Kendrick Perkins and Amare Stoudemire labeling Pau Gasol as "soft."

Los Angeles Lakers teammates defend Pau Gasol over latest 'soft' talk from Amare Stoudemire - ESPN Los Angeles

This makes no sense to me. Gasol is a better rebounder than both those guys. He played phenomenally against Boston in the finals...why are so many calling him soft the way they like to do Bosh?

I still say that if Reinsdorf had traded for Gasol, we wouldn't NEED Joakim Noah because Gasol gives you all that.

There's nothing about this guy that suggests he is soft to me.

The only reason I can think of is because both these guys have been landed playoff exits at the hand of the Lakers and have lost to them.

Here's an OLD NBA coach saying that I first heard by Lenny Wilkins, but here goes...

By minimum, to succeed in the NBA, you can only be one of these three things: Soft, Uncoordinated, Nonathletic.

It shouldn't have to be pointed out, that applies to the curve and it doesn't mean an exaggerated form of being uncoordinated like a klutz or nonathletic like a couch potato.

Yes, Gasol is soft. So what? He makes up for it in other ways. He's also very inconsistent, but that doesn't matter either because he can still draw double teams.

LOL at Amare calling anyone soft. And Perkins could only wish to have a career as good as Gasols and it has nothing to do with titles. Gasol sometimes plays soft but the guy overall is probably the 2nd smartest PF in the league and is just flat out a baller.

I feel like this topic comes up this team every year.

Soft, yet anyone would take Pau over Perkins and Amare. For a big man, Gasol isn't as physical and imposing as a lot of other PF's, but that's just not his game. He is a finesse big man that does a little bit of everything really well.

the guy complains on every possession and has one of the most annoying yells youll ever hear. and he yells a lot, he does the "and-1!!!" all the friggin time.

he just never retaliates. i think thats why people think hes soft.

he rarely throws elbows, you dont really see him knock guards around when hes setting screens, and he doesnt really smash the small guys when theyre in his territory (in the paint) getting boards from right out of his hands. dude is too nice

he doesnt really foul that hard either. im not saying he doesnt play D, but, he surely doesnt "set the tone" by being physical

forgive my ignorance but how do his media interviews affect how soft he is on the court?

well according to the article in the thread Amare called Pau soft, speaking w/ the media at a footlocker, and Perkins did the same w/ the media. Pau doesnt(for what ive hear) give reporters statements about anyone like that. i wasnt talking about on the court, btw

Amare calling anyone soft just makes my day, rofl.

And Gasol isn't exactly "soft" when the playoffs come around.

Some people use soft as an insult. Soft helps Pau because it allows him to be a better shooter and players down go as hard as normal in the post against him, then get killed by his hook shot.

Stoudemire calling someone soft? POT + KETTLE = BLACK.

Also, Gasol can't hear him. He's got his NBA Championship rings in his ears.
