So quick to forget Bears have a fully developed starter that Poles is in LOVE with Nathan Peterman! It's clear as day to see his the guy but they are just building around him as he learns the offense.

:One wonders why the Bears would want to play Fields with the JV offense and no major offensive weapons. With Lucas Patrick on injured reserve and Borom likely out, the Bears have serious gaps on the offensive line before playing the league’s best pass rush."

So how or what does this statement and others like it mean......

Is Poles trying to set up a situation to draft a QB in 2023?

Are the injuries being faked. Plus, I'd assume if JF is healthy, he'd want to play. The guy is a warrior with a winning attitude.

I don't think the injuries are being faked. That said, Jordan's point is pretty simple. Fields hurt his shoulder a few weeks back. You could easily use general shoulder soreness as a legit excuse to have him sit given every good player on the offensive roster (sans Montgomery, KmeTD and Jenkins) are out. You're going up against the best team in the league to this point in the season. There's nothing to play for as they've already been eliminated from playoff contention. His line is a jumbled mess with only 1 guy as a lock to start next year (Jenkins) barring injury.

So the question becomes, what is the upside to him playing? How much better is he going to get running for his life the entire game behind a replacement level line? How much better is he going to get throwing to receivers who may be more likely to be playing in the XFL next season rather than the NFL? You finally have a legit QB, protect him from taking excessive hits in a meaningless game.

So let me start off by saying good points, good questions. Sure Eberflus, could sit JF. But JF is a warrior who wants to play and win. I'm old school. I remember us winning the SB. I remember when losing was a disgusting act. It's just tough for me to co-sign on losing ( even for draft choices).

With all this said......I agree we "finally have a legit QB," So that's why I don't get the Is Poles trying to set up a situation to draft a QB in 2023? title of this thread.

between the lines it’s a thought excitement that if Fields gets seriously injured this or next week Poles could draft a qb.

It's no secret. The Bears are known for making lousy decisions. It's just an incompetent franchise, unfortunately.

The point is, they can't win a super bowl this year. Their season is over even if there are technically still games to be played. Old school or not, there is nothing on the line for the Bears. A win over Philly may feel nice for a week but in the grand scheme of things, it means nothing since you can't win a championship and all a win does is hurt you in the upcoming draft order.

Then you take into account that almost every supporting player on this already limited roster is already out with injuries. All it does is expose Fields to more hits in a season where he's already taken a shit ton of them (thanks to them not doing anything to protect him in the 1st place) with nothing to be gained. The most important player in the franchise is Fields. Why risk his health both short term in a meaningless game and long term if god forbid, he got seriously injured? What do you gain? Absolutely nothing.

So the thread question of "is Poles trying to set up a situation to draft a QB in 2023?" is being asked because there are really only downsides to him continuing to play in meaningless games. He's established himself as a QB in this league. That was the biggest question mark for 2022 - he's answered it. A Bears win (or wins) slides them down the draft board and eliminates the potential of acquiring multiple first round picks to supplement your newly established QB with better supporting talent. If he gets seriously hurt, then you've essentially punted on 2023 before it even began. If it's even more serious than that, now you've altered the entire plans for your roster going forward. His team is crippled by injuries, why potentially take the risk of adding to them with the most important player on your franchise? It's dumb as hell.

I want the Bears to win championships. They can't win one this year. Their best chance at winning a championship in 2023 is if Justin Fields is on the field. If he gets seriously injured, then you're waiting until 2024 to even have a small chance again. Nothing to be gained, everything to be lost. Just sit him.

"thought excitement" ok or is to draw ppl in? Off the top it sounds "lets get rid of JF"

How about drafting a good, mobile back-up Qb in the later rounds (as insurance for injury) ? I've said this many times I just want us to win another SB. I believe we have a SB-minded Qb and we just need to put the pieces around him.

Well in the beginning I had trouble with the hiring of this GM & staff. I was told lets wait and see. I get what you're saying about injuries, which is why I've never been a Qb designed run proponent ( which is what this rookie OC has gravitated toward). But No, I don't want JF hurt under any circumstances.

With all this said, I guess we're back to waiting and seeing how this all plays out and what will this staff do to help JF and the team moving forward.
