Is This Defense Worse Than Mel Tucker's?

Man this defense sucks. Haven't seen a defense this bad since Mel Tucker and Trestman.
I still think Tucker's was worse because they had more talent on the defense, but sucked as bad as this team that has nil for talent. I think they wound up giving up more points, but the season isn't over yet. As can be seen with the injury to Ejax, this defense can still get worse.

Mel Tuckers D had way more talent - Bears right now are like 2 injuries away from starting all Day 3 picks/UDFA/Vet minimum guys - AKA you could build this D with guys off the street.

This is probably the least talented front seven the Bears have trotted out there since the 90s.

Justin Jones & Jack Sanborn are the only two I would not dump the very second the season is over and they both are still feeling very replaceable.

IIRC, yesterday was the first time someone on the DL had a sack since the win against the Pats and none of them have had more than two sacks on the entire season.

That is crazy sad.

Statistically, no it’s not worse than Tucker.
Talent wise? Yes, it has worse talent.
Tucker was simply that bad of a DC and his GM/HC were too fucking stupid & weak to fire him mid-season.

This season is like the 2nd half of preseason games, just tryouts for next season. When you see your top 2 players/leaders get traded away mid season it's hard to keep da fire and da passion.

Defense is so stripped of talent and injured you can't judge the coaching at all at this point.

Crazy to think how loaded this defense was just 3-4 years ago. It's by far the least talented unit since I've been a fan.

Yeah, I'd say it's debatable. I forgot Peppers was there for one year of Trestman. Aside from him, they didn't have anybody else until Jay Ratliff signed late in the 2013 season and became their best pass rusher in 2014 when Peppers was cut. Fuller was talented but didn't become good until Vic Fangio got ahold of him. Lance Briggs and Jared Allen both couldn't play anymore.

This team definitely has the better secondary and I’d say LB corp as well. The Tucker D maybe had a better front 4? Barely…? Although they were playing scrubs like Sutton and Ego Ferguson.

Willie Young, Tim Jennings, Lamar Houston, Allen

2014 was not in any way talented but this defense doesn’t have 1 NFL capable starter in the DL. Gipson, Jones are backups at best. Doesn’t matter how talented your secondary is if your DL can’t stop the run or generate pressure.

using the Lovie/Merinelli scheme which he didn't know to well. He was stupid to agree to that, but that a different kind of stupid. I also think Briggs was leading a mutiny against him in the locker room.

ratliff, paea sutton and ferguson were a better DT rotation than the nobodies we have now.

Jared Allen with zero gas in the tank, one leg and no whiskey is better than any DE we have now.

After that I am with you. Even with comparing two crummy defenses, there isnt anyone on the front 7 right now that gives me any hope for next year.

Mel Tucker walked into the worst situation possible and it played out that way, despite still having talent on his teams.

Matt Eberflus has no one but Jaylon Johnson, an aging Eddie Jackson and two promising rookies to help those two guys out.
