Mitch is done. He only plays if there is an injury.
Would be my take as well but Foles has a history of missing gams.

well yah, all the mitch backers (there are plenty of them here) like that Lord of the rings guy will be quick to jump on Foles but that's expected.

Am sure it was the same back in the day, pro cutler vs anti cutler.
See, Why the vs when they are on the same team?

I think he will be a pretty good backup to be honest. His ability to run is very elite. Obviously having your starting QB run to much is not ideal for longevity. But as a back up who only needs to win a game or 2? Yeah open it up for him and let him run.

Ironically, Mitch will end his tenure in Chicago the way he really needed to begin it by holding a clipboard behind an experienced, more knowledgeable QB for the better part of a season. It's just too bad he wasn't given that opportunity at the onset courtesy of Pace's Mike Glennon debacle. I'm not 100% sure we won't see a Foles injury that puts Mitch back into a game or two as Foles took a couple big hits already yesterday in limited time. Fingers crossed he stays healthy and plays at a good enough level to keep Mitch on the bench, but time will tell.

You know Nagy will still want to do the cute type plays and likely use Trubisky here and there in a more limited Taysom Hill kind of way.

I think so. Foles did a lot with the same players, even with losting Cohen.

1. Was accurate, on long balls, and the obvious short stuff.
2. Used Cohen in space, and got a few big plays, too bad Cohen is probably out for a while.
3. Was able to read his progressions and work down them.
4. Distributed the ball not just to ARob, but to Graham, as well as Miller, Mooney, etc.
5. Was a little rusty, but overall seemed way more poised, even with an INT.
6. DEF seemed pumped up after he came in.
7. Rallied team to a big win.

I think Trubisky is done. He had his shot. GOD, imagine if we had Watson or Mahomes? Sigh.

If Foles proves that he can play this well as the starter and not just a bailout in game replacement Backup quarterback.

I believe the two best, or at least two of the best scenarios Foles plays well 8n are in relief and the other big factor and thats Files clear success as a purely RPO -12 system QB. Much like Josh McCown found that he was a run of the mill journeyman backup quarterback, until he took toTrestmans more classic West Coast system.

I want to draw the parallels between the two, but I cant do it just yet. However if Foles starts a week from now and plays smoothly for 4qtrs, I would have to feel VERY optimistic about him managing Nagys RPO12.

Dare I hope the Bears get a second chance with the McCown fiasco, that Emery managed to totally blunder as well as being the guy who laid the groundwork for terrible and HUGE QB contracts for for painfully average QBs.

Hopefully its a ray of sunlight on us after years of QB shitstorm.

Heres what I DO know and that is once Foles took over, from that point on was the smoothest, productive and consistent play from the offense since the 2018 Tampa Bay game.

It goes back to the, "if you have two quarterbacks, you really don't have any" thing.

Foles would have to really suck for Trubisky to get in the game again, barring injury.

Injury is the main concern here, which is why they'll still consider it important to work with Trubisky to make him suck less.

Two things I would add:
1. Apparently, he called and made up the specific TD play to Ant in the huddle.
2. Other plays that were called surprised offensive players as they had never been called under Trubs.

Trubs did make strides this year, and to call him garbage is unfair. But the inaccuracy of the deep ball is his Achilles heel as a long term starter. I doubt that improves significantly.

In 44 starts by Trubisky entering Sunday, playoffs included, the Bears had scored two offensive touchdowns 23 times. The offense accounted for more than 20 points only 15 times, and Trubisky had thrown for 300 or more yards — hardly the benchmark it once was — only seven times.

In short, no.

The offense accounted for more than 20 points only 15 times,

This is frightening. Where did u find that stat?

Mitch is "done" but I would wager that we see him start again as I find it unlikely that Foles will not get injured this year.

I guess I'd like to hear Mitch say....he's gonna fight back and prove the benching was wrong. Maybe I expect to much
I think that would kind of undermine Nagy and the coaches. What he can do is feel that way and say he will be ready to play when he is called on. If he starts yapping he will be traded for bread crumbs and a diet cola.

I didn't mean he should start "yapping" in a negative way. But just show leadership and exude more confidence. I've seen other interviews where he sounds like a "beaten man".
But keep this in mind, if things continue downward, it looks like he's not gonna be here anyway.

He really didn’t though and that’s why he’s riding the bench now.

Remember how Josh McCown made jay look. Not saying it's the same with Mitch.

The END? Probably not.

Mitch will likely (should) be the #2 until something changes that. Which makes sense.

I could even see them signing him on again for a 1-2 year CHEAP deal as a #2 QB. Let's be honest...do we see any other team giving Mitch a greater shot at being their #1!??? No.

^ This actually works out great for Bears' cap situation if you think about it. Foles is already signed through 2021 no matter what, unless he kicks so much ass and gets a bigger deal somewhere else? (he does have the right to opt out if so).

I just don't see that happening TBH. Foles has danced with enough teams to know a good situation in hand in CHI for another year.

+ PLUS: Bears can draft a QB3 candidate to stash or compete with Mitch next season. Not a terrible situation IMHO.

No way a #2 overall pick stays on the bench in the town that drafted him. Name a time that happened?
