Yep, I can't even protect Castro on that play. That may be the worst play of his career.

Eh, good job Kendricks. Should be only 1-0 but Castro with the boot and the fucking mental retardation led to 2-0. That batter getting hit by the pitch helped Hendricks. Gave him a chance to calm down and regroup. Cubs should hit Hughes. Lets get some runs.

Too damn many Edwin Jackson appearances lately. Every time I turn on a game and see him in there, I know the game is over. I can see why Sox fans hate the Twins....you look up and down their order and think "wow, these guys suck". Then their team of .240 hitters kick your ass.

Both of Rizzo's multi-homer games this season have been losses. What a waste

I'm not normally optimistic but I'm expectingLester and Arrieta to be dominant the next 2 games.

Saw that Soler taking BP and Olt played in Tennessee today
Cubs could use both these guys back

I wouldn't expect much from Olt. With Bryant at 3B and Denorfia in RF/LF he is a down grade to both.

Hed be an access/upgrade off the bench as a RHer with power and can spell both Rizzo and Bryant if needed..

Olt is probably more interesting off the bench than Herrera at least as a hitter.

Meh, with Olt. I kinda want a guy who makes contact coming off the bench. Not that Herrera is any great shakes but Olt should change the number on his uniform to "K". I do want Soler to get back into the lineup. I really hope someone talked to him or showed him some film of his AB's....his chasing of low outside garbage that he's getting fed is near Sorianolike. Strange, because I don't remember seeing much of that from him last year.

Olt is limited to 1B/3B. He is not going to see action. Herrera covers the MI. That gives him more value.

I'm seeing it as Soler and Ramirez promoting first and Baxter and Schwarber demoted. That pushed the platoon to LF again.

Bench at that point:

Denorfia, Herrera, Ross

Pen: Ramirez, Wood, Jackson, Rondon, Strop, Grimm, Medina, Motte, Russell

1 has to go and to be honest if you look at the numbers it would be Wood. 4.68 ERA is a eye sore but he has 52 SO in 50 IP with 48 hits given up at that point. So he is keeping his ratios around 1:1. There maybe some value in him as a BP arm looking ahead.

You take personal opinion out of it and none really are sucking in the pen over all.

Jackson: 2-1 2.52 ERA, 1.24 WHIP
Motte: 3-1 3.33 ERA 1.19 WHIP

These are the 2 that we point at but looking at the numbers they have been pretty MR league avg pitchers.

Add to it Wood is 1 of 2 lefties in the pen. Russell has 7 SO's in 15 IP. So he is not the guy that you toss in there if you need a SO vs a LH hitter. Rosscup was with 25 SO's in 23 IP.

So it is a head scratchier for sure.

Sure he will. You don't have to have him play the field. And even if you do you can always juggle around Bryant to a corner outfield spot in later game double switches. Olt is generally considered a better glove at 3B anyways. Herrera is hitting .228/.241/.263 on the season and has no power to speak of. Simply put, you want him for his glove not his bat. At present time they have to rely on both because their bench is Baxter, Ross and him. Olt improves that.

Exactly. ..

When their in the 8th or 9th and down a run or 2 , you need a guy who can jack one. .. not getting that from herrera, baxter, or Ross. .

I noticed most on here are concerned mainly with the benches positional play..
the bench main purpose isnt just about fielding , it about being able to come through with a hit late in games more often then not, along with when being able to spell a regular and not just be 4 automatic outs most games..

So far from day 1 they had 1 guy who fits and that Denorfia.
Everyone else so far has been mostly useless..
They need to find 1 more guy they can count on..

I think Alcantara deserves another chance but it seems as if their keeping him down and allowing him to play and get ABs to use him as trade bait...

Cubs are linked to 2 names right now in papelbon and Zobrist.
and looking to add a mid rotation pitcher to slot after Lester n Arrieta

Zobrist is walking like Kirk Gibson and the Yanks and Nationals and others are involved. I don't want Zobrist. He would bring very little to this team.

Bryant may have had his worst at bat in the majors right there. Let first pitch fastball right down the middle go. Swings at the next fastball in his eyes and way in then check swing strike out on a breaking ball never in the zone. You don't see to many bats like that out of him.

Did i miss the memo on coghlin being a pulling power hitter to where he needs to have a shift ?

Seriously, he leading off an inning with the whole left side open..
I dont care that your hitting 4th, bunt/push that ball down the laft side and go stand on first base...
