IS THIS THE FUNERAL PROCESSION?

Well...it looks bad. Quantrill probably has a bounce back too and pitches well enough...

but Hendricks is a big game pitcher and they need a big game. Its a friendly park and their line-up isn't toothless but its also not hot.

Cubs have the depth to get a couple focus runs today and its up to Hendricks to make 3 hold-up. Cubs are still in striking distance of the playoffs and have a few veterans to hold it together and make it close to the end. Would be a big win tonight and set up winning this series, getting Bryant back, getting Kimbrel back on Thursday...

no time to panic, its Greg Maddux time.

Shocked he's hitting 6th

Figured he'd bat him 9th like they did with russell a few years ago

That is fine there. In between Caratini and Heyward. Lower pressure. Might get some opportunity to drive in a run.

Schwarber and Nick at the hottest 2 hitters right now and they are getting the PA's. The O clicks better with Zo leading off. Rizzo is always going to hit 3-4. So it is natural to let a high contact bat get some PA's in RBI situations.

Obviously Cubs need to sweep or take 3 of 4 minimum to still have a shot. With Javy being out rest of season it is pretty much the death knell. Lester is done...and there will be BIG changes in offseason. Although Bryant and Rizzo are both top 10 in league OPS it makes u think it is an overrated stat. How can Cubs be this bad with TWO guys top 10 in OPS? Plus Castellanos...Javy...Contreras. If OPS was that important a stat..relating to actual wins...then it makes no sense the team as a whole is only like 6th in the national league in runs scored. That's about middle of the pack.

I'm not opposed to trading Bryant. .279...26 homers....a handful of rbi's (not his fault necessarily)..and you've got basically a guy a little above average...but the perception around the league of him being a "superstar" may help us net a nice haul. Things MUST change drastically. The run is over. 2 straight seasons without a division title...may not even make the playoffs this year. PLUS...Bryant has already turned down offers to extend contract and you know he's headed to FA anyway. That infield pop up the other day with 1 out and bases juiced at Milwaukee was an absolute killer. We've seen way too much of that with him. That pop up could very well have cost the season. It was a critical loss where we desperately needed him to come through.

It comes off as me being critical...but it's only due to my disgust at how much this team has underachieved the last two years. This lineup is so damn painful to watch most of the time. The constant failure in clutch situations...which the numbers back up.

Trade Bryant...dump Lester....make some other moves and retool and get ready for next season.

I doubt that they dump Lester. 20:$15M, 21:$25M mutual option ($10M buyout) He is a #5 SP right now. They are not going to eat 25M Add to it he is at 2.3fWAR right now. That is worth around 16M market value right now.

Bryant is at 4.3 fWAR right now. That is worth over 25M on the open market. With 2 year of control at team would be buying 8-10 WAR of value. That is a decent haul.

Sliding head first into home plate there was really super dumb. #1 it wasn't necessary on that particular play and #2 the neck isn't strong enough to absorb that impact. Hopefully, someone stops Nico from doing that again.

Schwarber now with 35 HR. I’d still think he could be packaged with Russell for a return. Not a big haul, but something worthwhile in return.
