A big THANKS to everyone who stopped by my booth at the Festival, and a big THANKS to Brian Howe of the Hawks for being concerned enough about my welfare to relocate me to the main concourse. Last year, early bird fans saw me directing traffic outside the UC when security wouldn't allow the players to cross the race route to enter the building and I had to recruit two of Chicago's finest who actually recognized the players and the importance of their attendance! No such problem Saturday. This year my booth was in front of the shoeshine station next to Gate 2, very convenient for watching the scrimmage-except, NO ONE EXPECTED THE SHOE SHINE GUY! Keep in mind that I like the guy and he's one of the last rogue entities in the building---in another reality, we could have been friends--- Instead of friendship he tried to shake me down for $400 (the price of him leaving quietly). His calls to Rocky went unanswered. I tried to point out that this wasn't a Hawks game and that 99% of the attendees were wearing running shoes, but he wouldn't negotiate, he wouldn't even share. I was laughing, he was dead serious. Security finally convinced him to retreat, but as he left I asked, "who was that shoe shine guy?" No one knows......he's just here and then he's gone.....

I wonder if HE was at the parade!

Go Hawks!
