The last few years my friends and I have been setting up trips to camp out and enjoy the outdoors for all it has to offer. Last time I started this thread I asked everyone here where their favorite places were to set up camp, so I'll ask everyone again to share some camp sites around Illinois, preferably within 3-4 hours of the Chicago area (maybe willing to drive further if it's worth the look)

We are looking for a place that gives you a bit more privacy than just the whole "10 feet from your neighbor" deal, also great scenery, a lake, and hiking trails are a plus. Obviously there are no "mountains" per say around this area, I'm sure there are some areas that have hills or small cliffs that would be fun to navigate.

Governor Dodge in Wisconsin is cool.

Southern IL is loaded with fun places but you'll want to do them in the Sprin or Fall. HOT in the summer.

Giant City just outside of C-dale is awesome. Climbng, camping, fishing at one of 5 awesome lakes.

Shawnee National Forest is cool. Climbing, fishing, excellent scenery from the bluffs

Starved Rock is cool... Dirk/Graham lived a few miles away you can say hi!

Southern IL is as close to "Mountains" as you'll get. Giant City has about a 100ft cliff you can repell off the face. Pretty fun.

Southern Missery is pretty cool to but kind of far. The 11pt river is an awesome canoe trip. Not too rough but there are cool camp sites all along the river.

I thought Graham moved to Massachusetts or Connecticut.

No suggestions from me. I'd rather do anything than camp. I require a real bed and a real bathroom. I don't like bugs or anything creepy. I would be whining the entire time.

Me too. I require tv too. I know being from Montana people think I'm nuts not liking camping. But I don't like it at all.

Not even if you could play naked hide and seek in the woods with your camping partner?

The penalty for being found in this game is determined by the particpants prior to the start.

Yellowstone Lake in S.E. Wisconsin. Short trip, really nice lake, has a dam, hiking trails, canoe rentals, really nice place. Also a big plus, almost no bugs. They have a lot of bat houses and a lot of bats. They eat every flying bug, especially mosquitoes, and everytime I have been there, I have never has a skeeter bite.

I highly suggest it.

Glacier National Park is one of the coolest places in the United States. But it's a little far for Tony.

Yellow Stone is pretty cool too. As well as the Bigfoot Mt's in WY.

My wives idea of camping out would be to stay at a motel 6.

The state park in Savana has a lot of hiking, cliffs and trails overlooking the Mississippi River. Great scenery.

Last year we camped at the state park in Loves Park (just off of 90 near Rockford). I forget the name of the campground.

There is a very nice lake and they have many private camp areas.

The bathrooms aren't too bad either and the place is huge.

Edit: Here it is: My link

a bunch of my friends and I rented a place up in fox lake in august. While it wont feel much like camping to me, seeing as Ive been up there the past 7 years alot what with my ex being from gurnee. Were going to hit up Blarney Island for we can see some boobies.

The last time i was at that bar i went to take a piss between to boats off the pier, look to my left and there was two girls having sex on a bench right next to me. So i just watched, then some guy walks by and goes what are you looking at and I just point, hes like holy shit and pulls out his video camera on his phone and begins recording. Then a crowd gathered. The girls were oblivious to it all. I assume they wanted privacy because you couldnt really see them from normal through traffic which is why i went their to piss.

I guess thats the closest ive been to a threesome, i had my dick out within 5 feet of two girls rubbing their vagoos together.

I'll be heading over to Medora, ND in July which is out in the badlands of North Dakota, gonna camp there, play a little golf at Bully Pulpit which is maybe the most gorgeous golf course I've ever seen, should be a good time.

For a simple, inexpensive camp out, I like going to Lowden State Park in Oregon,IL. It's a really nice big camp ground with nice trails and theres also a really nice river with some great views.

Devil's Lake is also another pretty nice place in WI... if I remember correctly, it's in Baraboo.

No time for a road trip this year, I really wish we did. Maybe near the end of summer, it's not too late I suppose. I'd love to head out west though, this trip is pretty much based on one weekend so it's not too much time.

Great suggestions from everyone though, I've looked at most of these places and all of them look like they could be really good. I think Giant City might have caught my interest the most as of now but nothing set in stone yet.

We get to take an awesome journey this summer that will culminate in a few days of 'camping' at my buddy's grandpa's cabin northeast of Toronto. We are driving in two cars from St. Louis to Buffalo to Toronto to the cabin which is just under an hour east of Peterborough, ON. I want to say its in Cordova Mines, CA.

We are stopping in Buffalo for a day or so, bumming in Toronto for a day, then spending three or four days at the cabin before retracing our steps home.

I haven't been to CA yet (crazy I know)...so should I pack flannel and an orange hunters hat with flaps? Am I supposed to appologize a lot? Is it okay to wear Hawks stuff there?
