Jailbroke my iPhone and then unjailbroke it, but does anybody know any benefits to jailbreaking, can you get free app store downloads somehow?

Forbes.com said it is legal for iPhone to jailbreak, but not iPod or iPad

Did you want to access specific features or programs? That is the "jailbreaking" benefit. If you don't know why you need the extra access to apps, you'll likely not need to do it. Also, I didn't think it was illegal to do anything with other iOS devices. It never was, despite apple's legal team trying to claim that it ever was. It's yours to use however you like, and if you violate service contracts with what you do on someone else's domain, you're liable. Things that rooting, unlocking, or jailbreaking, modifying does not do.

I have thought about this but I'm afraid of making my phone a paperweight.

I had a jailbroken iPhone. I mainly wanted it for customization of the menus and what not. Basically just google search the best things to do in Cydia for your phone to make it better. Some things will drain the battery more, and some will make your phone slower...

If you want free apps (not legal) then you do what poster above says...you are liable if you're ever caught though.

I started Jailbraking with my 3GS. Back then it was to make my phone do things it couldn’t without jailbraking it. Multitasking, customization, SBS settings (swipe the top of screen for a drop down menu) tethering and many other things.

These days most things can be done with the standard IOS. Although my iPhone is jail broke I doubt I will continue to do so because it does make the phone a little more unstable and the risk/reward realy isn’t there anymore.

I never was afraid of bricking my phone but voiding the warranty is a real problem if you have to go to Apple for help.
