[h=2]Free agent signee Jason Heyward is already making a big impact[/h]The Chicago Cubs were ecstatic when they signed free agent outfielder Jason Heyward to a 8-year contract in December. The young outfielder will give the Cubs a nice bat at the plate and will bring his impressive defensive skills as well. But now Heyward is ready to give back to the Cubs off the field.Heyward has agreed to foot the bill for veteran catcher David Ross to enjoy a hotel suite during all 82 road games this season. That means everytime the Cubs are on the road this season, Ross will be staying in a suite all by himself. The 38-year-old Ross announced that this will be his final season in the big leagues and now his teammates want him to enjoy it. Heyward and Ross played together from 2010-12 in Atlanta and the two were lockermates when the outfielder made his debut."That's one of the first emotional moments I had in the offseason," Ross said via MLB.com. "[Heyward] texted me this nice long message about supposedly what I've done for him. That was cool to start reflecting back and people you've played with start saying nice things."Heyward isn't the only teammate enjoying Ross' retirement plans.Sluggers Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant have created an Instagram account documenting Ross's final season, titling it "GrandpaRossy_3" and have already posted a few photos:https://www.instagram.com/p/BCEWEDkLDX0/?taken-by=grandparossy_3With antics like this, it's no secret why the Cubs are becoming one of the most likable teams in all of baseball.

I have no idea if Ross is going to make a great coach or not. But he's got the relationship part down cold. This offering for the number by Heyward is not only creative, I think it's better than the typical $35K rolex. I'm still not changing my allegiance, but talk about another positive step for this team.

This was a good tidbit. I said this a few days back when the article about Rizzo and Bryant creating the account for Ross' final season came out, but Ross must have a very special trait in that locker room that is immeasurable by us "fans" on the field. His numbers at this point don't say a lot, but these young players are some of the best in the game and absolutely love him. It's really an interesting behind the scenes plotline.
