That contributed, but his horrible drafting and personnel moves sunk the team which was a contender.I think there has been talk of people thinking that would happen before, and by retire, what they mean is be "Promoted" into another position with the Bears organization, just to move away from the GM spot.
It was brought up when the Tim Ruskle hire came to play and before it when they had their big fancy press conference last winter.
Didn't Tim Ruskle also help assemble that Seatle championship team.. I think what dismantled them more than anything was their superstar RB getting old. Plus Holmgren without some power at that point.
This is only good if a successful, competent GM takes his place.
