To me, I'm seeing another DeRozen type of player. Excellent High Energy Athlete bursting with potential that is raw in certain areas of his game.
I wasn't crazy about him at first since I wanted an established Dynamic scorer.

Butler is coming in as a Good Defender that can knock down an outside jumper. If he can improve his handles during the duration of this lockout and consistently extend his range, the sky could be the limit for him.

He talks as though he has a Good Work Ethnic so lets hope he backs it up with his training.
Its not impossible to imagine him becoming a special player IMO.

To be Completely HONEST....

I'd go ahead and Start him next to D. Rose right away. I have a felling that he is one of those produce right away guys. He has no Fear of the Big Moment and looking at the other SG's we have, I see no significant skill difference that warrents them locking down a starting position since none of them are dynamic scorers and aren't getting any better than they currently are.

He plays nothing like Derozan. Derozan is in a different league on offense and is younger than Jimmy also. Jimmy will be nothing more than a good defensive specialist slash rebounder a 9th or 10th man on a good team IMO. Which is fine every team needs one but Chicago already has some of them.

Ok...well lets break down DeRozen's game for a second. What can he do???

He's a freak Athlete that just developed a consistant midrange jumper. He came in only scoring on primarily DUNKS in year one. Defense was so so.

Now...Look at Jimmy Butler.

An Excellent athlete. (not as flashy of a Dunker but still, he got hops), an established Defender (Good Defender actually) that also showed that he can his midranged shots and even a game winner.

I'm not saying they were exactly the same but that they are Similar. Jimmy Butler can have similar success and make similar improvement in his game as well. The fact that Thibs likes him so much is key to his game because he will get significant Play Time right away IMO.

They are not that far apart from each other. Neither one of can is a consistant 3 point shooter however, they both have that Work Ethnic to Improve their games.

But...I guess the only way to be certain or prove my statements is to see him in action in the actual season...

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  2. Golden State Warriors
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
I don't see him as more than a Shane Battier type player. And that's his ceiling. Not bad for a 30th pick though.

derozan is/was much more advanced on both ends....no offense but he has quite a bit more potential than butler does..derozan was a top 10 pick for a reason as a freshman

doesnt mean butler cant be a good athletic/defensive specialist for the bulls but i see him as a another ronnie brewer or a guy like shane battier as clone said...

I love California.
The moment Jimmy was drafted- I immediately believed that he should become Rose's tag-along. Get an apt in Cali and train w Rob Mac... Rose, Durant, Westbrook, Love, Evans, and countless other NBA players train with him and improve their game consistently. Training with point guards will help his conditioning (Kevin Love/Durant did PG drills all summer w Rose and Westbrook and you see the year they had as big men/ forwards). Offensive moves are a must for a starting SG and they need to be developed- why I believe Ronnie will be starting SG next year if we don't sign a bigname.
Either way, Jimmy needs to train on Rose/Durant/Russell/Love level--- training with Wes will improve his game also- and if he can mimmick Matthews offensive game he will be looking at solid minutes his rookie year (a la Taj Gibson- he played due to injuries, but contributed none the less). Butler reminds me of a shorter Taj Gibson- he has length and not a lot of bulk- decent shot- not always natural- but enegry, all the time effort attitude. So Derozan comparisons are off in my opinion but if he shows more leg strength and an overall better shooting percentage I could agree to an extent.
I'm excited to see basketball period but waiting to see if Butler can backup his talk will be fun also.
Love Jimi.

I think that the best case scenario would be a Wes Matthews type player. The worst case could be anywhere from Ronnie Brewer to James Johnson. Should be interesting to see how he turns out

I like Butler but at I don't think he should start at the 2. He isn't better than Brewer to me. He should just be Deng's back up.

I don't see Derozan in Jimmy Butler at all...if Butler had that type of potential...he goes much higher in what was a horrible draft.

Butler I believe is a big steal, and will be a great player in this league...really see so much in him and many teams will be mad they passed up on him.

I don't necessarily see Butler ever being a starter, but he could make a solid 6th man down the road.

Until we really see him in NBA action, it's going to be difficult to fully gauge his potential. However, based on his intangibles (athleticism, work ethic, & high bball IQ), I could see him progessing very well in this league. I don't think he'll be a star but then again not many people thought Finley, Redd, Arenas, or Ellis would be that good, so he could surprise us all.

I'm really excited about this guy!
He's a hard worker and is defensive minded.
With Thibs' coaching, he'll be even more of a steal!

I find it ironic that I was cheering against his team during the Sweet 16, when they played Carolina and now he's on the Bulls :D
