He could be the trade down; get a haul and still draft a qb at 3/6/9.

But the Bears would need a bridge qb

I'd still trade Fields for picks now before nobody will trade anything for him when he's exposed another year and/or is due a new contact....in that scenario the bears would likely need a veteran bridge qb to start in 2024

Out of CW, Maye, Nix, Daniels, Penix and JJ, JJ would be my last choice. I personally don't even understand how he is being considered 1st round material.

If they go with a 2nd tier rookie QB, then Russell Wilson makes sense.

He didn't throw much at Michigan but that was because of how they ran their offense and when he did throw he threw some absolute dimes and lazers. Just look at the throws he threw in the national championship game cause he threw some great passes.

When the Bears were being talked about as being interested in trading for Russ before Denver got him wasn't their talk that Ciara has family there? Don't know for sure but think i remember there being some kind of talk about that.

Russell Wilson makes no sense anymore.

If you are trading back, then just keep Fields. No need to bring in Wilson for anything.
He does if you want to win games in 2024. Good chance that any rookie they bring in doesn’t win a lot of games in 2024.

Hence why I said I would be keeping Fields....

IMO, your 2024 starter at QB is either Williams if the Bears keep the #1 pick or Fields if you do some sort of trade back.

If the Bears do trade back, then I absolutely think you still draft a QB to develop behind him. But you would keep Fields to be your 2024 starter.

I am clearly wearing blue and yellow over here, but I think that JJ McCarthy is the same kind of prospect that Mac Jones was.

That isnt to say that he wont become a great QB at the pro level. To the contrary, if he keeps working hard, he has the traits to be a winner in the NFL. But he is the kind of QB that will, at his most effective, be overshadowed by his weapons because he wont be asked to do a whole lot. That is what a lot of people mean by "system quarterback." I just wouldn't aim for that kind of QB in the first round.

He should be a second round QB, but Atlanta or LV could easily take him simply out of need for QB talent. If he falls and Chicago picks up a second rounder in a trade down (and still picks up MHJ - the dream), then hell, sounds good to me. Fields can get better and keep him on the bench, or JJ can win the job with hard work. Just not as a first rounder, please

There’s no reason not to draft a QB frequently. Even though I really like Bagent, bring in that kid from Tenn or Baby Tua for all I care. I don’t see why the Bears wouldn’t pick up a 6th or 7th rounder in some trade down.

Mac has a junior high school level arm, which is his biggest problem. McCarthy has an nfl level arm. I don’t know how good he’ll be but JJ won’t have the arm strength issue

Well, my comparison was intended to show that he is a big name because he won for a big program, but shouldnt be a first round pick.

I hate Mac Jones. I do not hate JJ and wish him a lot of success against 31 other NFL teams.

Personally I like Jonathan James McCarthy from Lagrange Park Illinois, quite a bit. I will admit that I'm a Wolverine fan, but McCarthy has all the tools to be a good QB, he just needs a year to develop because Harbaugh won with defense and the run game instead of putting it all on JJ.

Ideally he's a second round pick you put on the bench as the backup plan if Fields doesn't take off next season.
