Nice article. He was a part of something that generations waited for. I wish him the best.

Def sounds like he wanted one thing, Theo wanted the other. I can imagine how much they butted heads.

Theo contradicted some of the things Madden said aboot wanting to leave.

“That would conflict with some of the things that he and his agent were saying and doing toward the end of the season," Epstein said from Cubs camp on Tuesday. "If that's how he feels, I'm not going to dispute it. That doesn't reflect the conversations we were having."

yep, soon as Theo said "I am gonna take the high road on this one..." uh oh. Bridges burned!

“Go out and play” when you’ve been underachieving for 2 years is a pretty awful approach. Theo has messed this roster up from potential dynasty possibilities, but Maddon is clearly wrong on this outlook.

Theo's front office just can't draft or develop pitching and it was bound to catch up to them, nothing more nothing less. Due to the lack of pitching prospects in the farm system is why they had to overpay and trade to get average starts from guys like Quintana.

It is what it is

The Cubs are entering Year 9 under Theo Epstein and have yet to draft/sign and develop a homegrown, impact starting pitcher (though Adbert Alzolay could be one). It’s been the Achilles heel of Epstein’s front office, which consequentially has had to pour a ton of money and assets into building a competitive rotation.
