I guess my biggest fear in this whole episode is the Hawks becoming the Bears. Putting someone from the family into the Presidents role that wouldnt have gotten this position with any other organization, but does cause of the family.
I'm not saying your fear of the Hawks becoming like the Bears is unjustified, but it is kind of ironic because, the (overall) fear until yesterday had been that the Hawks would be like the Bulls. It's doubly ironic that, now that the Bulls have finally made the changes that all of their fans wanted, perhaps the Hawks are making the changes that all of their fans wanted too -- which will culminate in the firing of Stan Bowman and the implementation of a real rebuild.
Right now, Dan Wirtz is just the interim president until they find someone else -- so that is encouraging.
People seem to believe that this definitely spells the end for Stan Bowman -- and I sincerely hope they're right, because he should have been gone before anyone, including Q and McD. However, if that indeed were the case, why wouldn't Rocky simply fire Bowman? I find it somewhat hard to believe that McD had such loyalty for Stan that he refused to fire him. I don't know -- many people are assuming this is more like when a GM is fired, and a new GM is hired and fires the coach to bring in a guy he likes -- but is this really as similar when it's a president? I hope so, but I'm more cautiously optimistic than anything.
The thing that worries me is that, if McD did play a bigger role in acquiring/trading players, maybe Rocky viewed him as a threat to Stan. So he decided to fire McD in order to (once again) save Bowman, even though -- from a marketing perspective -- the team is as successful and popular as ever.
