The Bulls vs Hawks was on ESPN and Jon Barry was the color commentator. After catching his breath when Derrick Rose threw down that monsterous alley-oop dunk he stated that he wished he could see Rose on Mike D'Antoni's team. He then commented several times that he would never run a halfcourt set with Rose on the team, just let him go.

I've been saying this for 2 years, why aren't the Bulls a fastbreak team? Vinny is an absolute MORON with this. Ok lets break down the advantages to picking up the pace:

1: Rose is one of the fastest PG's in the league and best playmakers in the open floor. He's pretty much unstoppable just like Barry kept repeating. (wish VDN heard him)

2: Long and athletic big men: Noah, Gibson, Tyrus can all run the floor extremely well and their biggest advantage is getting out and running ahead of the other slow bigs in the league. I would say the Bulls have the most athletic and speedy big men (except Miller) in the NBA!

3: Fastbreaks would help our 2's and 3's. Deng can't go one on one and can run the floor well, it would open up his game if we got out and ran. Salmons is struggling so the best thing to do would be to get out and run to get him easier buckets to gain confidence. Kirk is at a disadvantage always with his size starting at the SG so it would help him to get out in the open floor also.

4: No post presence and lack of 3point shooting. Without a post up option and no reliable 3 point shooting the Bulls halfcourt offense (even if they had one) is horrible. So why wouldn't you pick up the pace?

IMO Vinny started this stupid slow down offense because he was worried about the defense. By slowing down the pace, the Bulls look like they have a better defensive team than they actually do. Is it because he played at San Antonio where they emphasized half court sets? Well they had David Robinson. I don't understand it at all, even girls I know who don't watch sports at all have asked me (multiple times) why they don't run up quickly because they are so fast. I tell them that we have to dumbest coach on planet earth.

It is not that simple...they run when they can...

How long have you heard Skiles and VDN BEG Tyrus to run? Its been years now...

Noah just got in good enough shape to run a year ago...I remember Stacey King being critical of Noah for not being able to keep up with Al Horford who would simply run to the front of the rim every chance he got to run.

And running is predicated on defensive rebounding...with Noah out, team rebounding will be key going forth which will stall fast break attempts...

You can run yourself in the ground if you run constantly with a shortened rotation...

While I don't think VDN is ready to coach, I will give him more credit than that. He wanted to run a variation of D'Antoni's offense...just didnt work out that way...

Well I agree it isn't easy but nothing in the NBA is easy. You can't just tell them to run. I was listening to the huddle when ESPN had VDN mic'd up and he was saying to run. I am not at practice, but coaches who get their team to run practice and preach it constantly. I have seen no evidence whatsoever that the Bulls are emphasizing running. There are a few times you even see Rose slow up after glancing at the bench.

The Suns and Golden State run even after made baskets. Vinny has a designated man inbounding after made baskets, that is so high school. Fastbreak coaches teach the closest man to the basket take the ball "literally" rt out of the net and inbound.

As far as our short rotation, I don't see the Suns running 11 deep, and the Knicks a lot of the time play 7 guys. Golden State beat us with 6 guys and only 4 did anything. How do we know the Bulls are out of shape if we don't check first, lets give it a shot.

Noah was out of shape the first 2 years, this year he seems to be in much better shape. Also Horford is about the only Center who can run with Noah, any other Center Noah can smoke. (even though Horford is really a PF)

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  2. Golden State Warriors
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
You run when you can. I think they could do a little more running myself, but we're not GS. I think it would be good if Rose would just push it at every opportunity instead of slowing it down except in situations where it's like 1 on 3 or something where it would be stupid to push it.

I don't know about that...I don't think Noah can "smoke" that boy in Orlando and Pau can run with him too.....

Yes exactly, I don't want them to turn into Golden State either, but it was so obvious last night against the Hawks, they had multiple opportunities to run but didn't and that is against a quick team. When they are playing the Celtics or Cavs and we are slowing it up, it just makes my stomach churn.

Barry even made the comment that the Spurs let Parker loose and if he comes down against 2 players he has the green light to go, because there is no way that even 2 guys are stopping him. Rose went against 3 guys on that great layup past Joe Johnson and he lifted it over Horford who was coming in to block it. That was after a made basket, he needs to do that much more.

I still think it is Vinny's way of making our defense look better. I think Reinsdorf pulled him in last summer and said "if you don't improve the defense your gone". So VDN figured out a way to flub the stats, just like everyone else does at their jobs when given an unreasonable ultimatum by their supervisors.

Our pace isn't really any different to last year, so I don't see how you can blame it on a VDN/JR conspiracy theory.

I don't think so...that is a baseless argument and it doesn't make much sense...
