The Bulls vs Hawks was on ESPN and Jon Barry was the color commentator. After catching his breath when Derrick Rose threw down that monsterous alley-oop dunk he stated that he wished he could see Rose on Mike D'Antoni's team. He then commented several times that he would never run a halfcourt set with Rose on the team, just let him go.
I've been saying this for 2 years, why aren't the Bulls a fastbreak team? Vinny is an absolute MORON with this. Ok lets break down the advantages to picking up the pace:
1: Rose is one of the fastest PG's in the league and best playmakers in the open floor. He's pretty much unstoppable just like Barry kept repeating. (wish VDN heard him)
2: Long and athletic big men: Noah, Gibson, Tyrus can all run the floor extremely well and their biggest advantage is getting out and running ahead of the other slow bigs in the league. I would say the Bulls have the most athletic and speedy big men (except Miller) in the NBA!
3: Fastbreaks would help our 2's and 3's. Deng can't go one on one and can run the floor well, it would open up his game if we got out and ran. Salmons is struggling so the best thing to do would be to get out and run to get him easier buckets to gain confidence. Kirk is at a disadvantage always with his size starting at the SG so it would help him to get out in the open floor also.
4: No post presence and lack of 3point shooting. Without a post up option and no reliable 3 point shooting the Bulls halfcourt offense (even if they had one) is horrible. So why wouldn't you pick up the pace?
IMO Vinny started this stupid slow down offense because he was worried about the defense. By slowing down the pace, the Bulls look like they have a better defensive team than they actually do. Is it because he played at San Antonio where they emphasized half court sets? Well they had David Robinson. I don't understand it at all, even girls I know who don't watch sports at all have asked me (multiple times) why they don't run up quickly because they are so fast. I tell them that we have to dumbest coach on planet earth.
