So let me say my piece since this shit gets extremely tiring, getting shit on for 95% of the opinions I have around here from moe, larry, and curly just because they come from me.
Very insensitive joke in my eyes and I didn't like it. I've had to live with a family member who struggles with MS. Who wakes up at 4AM, 6AM, etc after their shots (3 times a week) with flu like symptoms because of the medicine. Something they will have to go through the rest of their life until a cure is found. Who has had to be in the hospital for a week at a time when an attack happens. There isn't anything I find funny about this disease.
I feel for Josh Harding and I am definitely rooting for him. Knowing what I know about this disease, I think it is going to be extremely tough for him to continue playing at a high level (doesn't mean I'm not rooting for it though). MS is most likely going to be messing with his vision, balance, and fatigue (some of the most common symptoms) which is going to be one hell of a battle to overcome for a NHL goaltender. On top of that, the first stage of MS is where you get "attacks" from time to time (unfortunately they usually progress in how often, severity, etc) where you might have extremely poor vision for 1 - 3 weeks, walk around like a drunk person for 1 - 3 weeks. The only cure for these attacks is to go to a hospital, get hooked up to an IV and get through the attack. Right now there is no cure for MS but they are making great strides. Just 10 years ago medication was very scarce. Now the medication that is out there is very impressive and while it doesn't cure MS, it does slow down the progression and deterioration of the myelin sheath. Josh Harding should be very proud for how he is taking this thing head on (the below link has a few more updated quotes from him that are great). I personally don't know any current or former athletes (at the pro level) who have played with MS but if Josh Harding is the first, hopefully he is able to educate people and show how far science has come with this disease. Every case of MS is different and every story has a different outcome, really hoping this is a positive one and that there are more positive ones in the world as we continue to learn more about this disease. This disease has affected myself and my family deeply and I will be one of Josh Harding's biggest fans from here on out.
