the part about money is reason enough it'll never happen. talking about trading Fields now is as batshit as wanting the team to offer 12 1st round picks to get Watson. when they could've just drafted Watson to begin with. and he wouldn't have been the same player if the Bears took him instead of the Texans anyway.
If any team is capable of paying Jackson, it is us. We have nearly 120 mil in cap space. At the end of the day someone is going to pay him. I just think teams are going to want the market to cool down after the Watson deal.

No one wants to be the next team that gives that type of contract out. And players are going to fight for it considering it's been done.

I was never impressed with Jackson as a passer in the 3 or 4 games I've seen. his stats are obviously better than Fields now (he plays for a team that's been pretty consistent with talent) I just don't see the purpose in spending a lot of money on what could potentially be the same player they already have. there have been a lot of actual elite level quarterbacks that would've been killed for the last decade if they played for the Bears. is it criminal that Poles didn't drop a bunch of money on better players right now? maybe purely from a health perspective. I just don't see the purpose of undoing Pace's mistakes and simply repeating them again. it's going to take time to build the Bears. next year will be another whatever season, but maybe in 2024 they'll be able to go on a serious run.

I agree that you ride with Justin and see what he develops into, but if not for Justin's play the last couple weeks this is a much different conversation. Franchise QBs just don't hit the market and become available. If Jackson did, and we had the Cao space like we do, any other season fans would be clamoring for the team to make a move.

But yeah, with Justin performing well, you go all out while he is on his rookie contract and get him a nice supporting cast.

Other teams in the league are probably smart enough to not give up multiple firsts for a QB that can't throw when he doesn't have the threat of the run to set it up.

But if there is a team that would give up at least 2 firsts plus some 2nd or 3rds I'd do it. Ideally the Bears get a top 3 pick. Identify another qb in the draft this new regime likes that has more potential than Fields as a passer and take him. Then reload with the talent from all the draft picks from trading Fields. This also buys them 2 more years before needing to pay a QB. The timing of the rebuild would work much better by trading Fields and starting out with another top 3 pick QB.

It's high. And the Bears would be stupid to trade him.

I would never entertain trading him but I bet poles and nay gm knows their players trade value.

I am curious as to what he would bring. Again, I wouldn’t trade him but I’d like to know for my own curiousity.

I bet he’s fetch about what Watson was traded for but more due to the cheap couple years left.

This is what I thought made it interesting. If Justin Fields value is similar to Deshaun Watson and the Bears can trade down, they would have a ton of draft capital to build around Lamar Jackson. (Again, this is all hypothetical and I don’t want to trade Fields)

Add in trading down #3 for #5 & #21

You could end up with:
Lamar Jackson
3 2023 1sts
2 2024 1sts
2 2025 1sts
1 2023 2nd
2 2023 3rds
2 2023 4ths
2 2024 4ths
2 2023 5ths

I had thought about this earlier this year when Lamar didn't get resigned. If our team was more complete I think it would be a good idea. Kinda like Rams adding Stafford. With our team needing a ton of talent , and two to three years to gel I don't think it's smart. You can't pay a guy 40 mil a year knowing your not close to contending for a Chip.
Now, for shits n giggles if someone gave up something ridiculous, like 2 or 3 firsts and a good player or two. Who knows? I'd listen, but honestly if he doesn't sign a contract, he's getting tagged.
