Patrick Kane may not start the season for the Chicago Blackhawks as the second line center. Pane was moved to center during the 2011-12 season as the Blackhawks were in dire need of help down the middle. At the end of the season it was assumed that Kane would fill that role again, but GM Stan Bowman took a different stance stating that "it was an option for us". (Source: Chicago Tribune)

Could a move be in the works? Thoughts on a trade, signing, prospect?

Trade him if you can get a real second line center and some physical D.

Maybe, in all likelyhood, it just means diddly squat. The words "option" doesn't mean a thing. It means they're still any possibility at 2nd line center if they add someone. If not, it's likely Kane.

The difference of saying it's assumed or an option change nothing. That's a pure case of reading into something that isn't saying a thing.

One day, I'd love a Hawks beat reporter to look at Sharp (or Q, even) and ask, "The Hawks won a Cup with you as the 2C. Why haven't you been back there?"
