Anyone listen to cross talk on ESPN with Kap, Waddle, Silvy? Kap said he expects the Cubs to eliminate Pittsburgh in the single game playoff and then upset the Cards in the next round. He did mention that the Dodgers will then proceed to eliminate us.

Thoughts? That would be a stunning run for us -- to eliminate both division rivals. Will this be done?

Assuming that the Cubs win over Pitt, it would GREATLY behoove them to win in four or less

WC Game (10/7) - Arrieta
Game 1 (10/9) - Lester
Game 2 (10/10) - Hammel
Game 3 (10/12) - Arrieta
Game 4 (10/13) - Hendricks/Haren/Bullpen
Game 5 (10/15) - Lester

NLCS
Game 1 (10/17) - Arrieta
Game 2 (10/18) - Hammel
Game 3 (10/20) - Lester
Game 4 (10/21) - Hendricks/Haren/Bullpen
Game 5 (10/23) - Arrieta
Game 6 (10/24) - Hammel
Game 7 (10/25) - Lester

OR win in four
Game 1 (10/17) - Lester
Game 2 (10/18) - Arrieta
Game 3 (10/20) - Hammel
Game 4 (10/21) - Hendricks/Haren/Bullpen
Game 5 (10/23) - Lester
Game 6 (10/24) - Arrieta
Game 7 (10/25) - Hammel

Sure it's possible. I certainly wouldn't discount their chances. I wouldn't necessarily predict it either. Here's the funny thing if they got that far the Dodgers don't scare me. They can be a disorganized mess at times and although they do have two of the three best pitchers in the NL the Cubs have the third and have beaten both of the others this year. They also have a bullpen than can be extremely porous at times, I would say more so than our boys. So not only would I call the prediction possible I would say if the first two steps are possible so is getting to the WS. That said I make no such pronouncements or predictions. Let's play the games and see how that goes. If histroy tells us anything it's that the only sport with less predictable playoffs than MLB is the NHL. You get in, you have a chance.

I have a real strong suspicion that hammels and Hendricks will pitch playoffs if we make it that far. I just believe he is going to only go 4 or so innings with them and play bullpen the rest of the way. He has been doing this with them a lot even when they are giving decent starts

I don't think the Dodgers would eliminate us.

i don't know if we can beat LA, what i know is that in the PO against Greinke and Kershaw we have to score when man at 3rd and 1 out, at Phillies and at Pirates our inabilty to do it hurt us, glad to see more effective small ball lately though

If they can get Edwards walk issues from AAA under control it's not a terrible idea. KC basically pitched their starters 5 innings and used a dominant BP to get them thru to the WS.

Why is everyone talking about the Dodgers?

Who says that they will get past the Mets?

Strong suspicion the way he has been using them.

Maybe it's 1969 that's still pissing me off but I would love to see the Cubs knock out the Mets.

Can't blame the Mets. That was all Cubs melt down.

What it was...was lack of depth. Durocher had to play the same guys every game because he had no bench. Same guys every game in a very hot summer with no night home games...sure, they had all around sub Paul Popovich but that was about it. Fact is, overall they weren't that good of a team. If they would've had any major injuries they would have struggled just to contend. Which is precisely why I'm against trading this years depth away for pitching that can be purchased.

I was 8 in 1969 and remember most of it pretty well. It was also pretty well discussed as I grew up playing the game for the next several years. It wasn't a lack of depth, although In September there weren't many guys who had seen much playing time that you would have felt comfortable playing. Durocher basically played the same 8 every day, even early in the summer when he should have started giving guys rest. 5 players played over 150 games. Guys don't get experience unless you give it to them. That collapse was on Durocher.
