Not my words. This is Brett Kollman's pre-draft offensive gems video. He always has good content. His co-host predicted Khalil would be a value pick at the end of round 3.

Watching his game tape it looks to me like as a pure runner Herbert does everything well. Vision, some power, contact-balance, quickness, speed. Some reports say he's not a good pass catcher or blocker. No meatball expectations but I'm excited to see how he does when given a chance in the backfield.

Khalil Herbert discussion begins at 19:05. Tevin Jenkins is his #1 gem and he talks about him at the onset of the video.

Khalil is not that shifty dancer type but has great vision for lanes and is sneaky elusive. More a speed change guy than a a runner that jukes you out. Very efficient runner. Picks the right hole and then angles in the secondary and fast enough to make those angles work for him. He should be great on runbacks as well. Now I'll watch the vid.

Agreed. Not too shifty. He kind of just angles away from and gets around defenders but is very effective at it and makes it seem effortless. His vision and understanding of angles looks elite in his highlights.

I'll be happy if he makes it as a top return guy, the Aaron Jones comparison is really out there

Seems like a crowded RB room. Monty should get majority of touches and then you have Williams and Cohen as well. I don't see Herbert getting much run especially with Nagy's tenancy to abandon the run.

I will say out of all the later round picks, he is the guy I am highest on currently.

He will come in extremely handy if one of the 3 backs gets hurt and misses time. I’d say it’s likely that happens too.

Herbert is the second coming of Thomas Jones.

Kind of OT but I liked the tiny little bit we got to see from Pierce last year. He was like the anti Monty. Hit the whole hard and with speed. He’s probably destined for the PS.

Anyway it will be nice to not have to rely on Ryan Nall and Cordarrelle Patterson.

Monty
Cohen
Williams
Herbert

Not a bad RB room. This kid could stick around when Monty moves on in a couple years.

So by my count, we have a fight between Borom and his possible Pro Bowl backup Ifedi at RT, Kindle Vildor making the loss of Kyle Fuller irrelevant, and a Pro Bowl level 4th RB. That is without mentioning a game 1 rookie season starting LT stolen in the 2nd round and a future HOF rookie QB.

Would I be a CCS Debbie Downer to say this offseason's hype has gotten a bit ridiculous?

I don't think there is such a thing as a crowded room for RBs. If you don't have an all star, your team benefits from having a stable of guys that can sub in without the offense missing a beat.

Personally thing Thomas Graham Jr was a better selection than Herbert but am rooting for him he seems like a really good kid... pro-bowl caliber running back?

I would say that we will never see if he can play RB.
1. Nagy
2. The competition that will be ahead of him is pretty good, to include Pierce
3. His best chance of making the team is ST, because while I hated seeing Patterson in on 3rd and short, he was very good at kick return. He will likely need to play coverage also, but RBs can be valuable on both coverage and return units.

He is a two down RB at this point. He provides no change of pace from Montgomery. I don't see where the carries or plays come from for him this year.

Hopefully he takes this year to play good ST and learn pass protection to make himself more complete. Maybe he pushes for carries in his second year.

Seems like a great guy to have as a 3rd running back to develop who can maybe step up to being the 2nd back next year assuming Damien Williams will be looking for a more prominent role.
