So -- I don't have kids, but I teach them (3-5 year olds) and I know a lot of you have children -- and you'd like to monitor what they listen to best you can. I've spent a lot of time over the last week or so finding lyrics of actual songs (not kiddy Dr. Jean junk) that kids can listen to w/ no fear from parents. Thought I'd share it w/ those interested. If you have any of your own, add 'em!

Call Me Maybe - Carly Rae Jespen
Shake Your Booty - KC & The Sunshine Band
Funkytown - Lipps, Inc.
Safety Dance - Men in Hats
Party in the USA - Miley Cyrus (pre-psycho)
I'm a Believer - Smashmouth
I Like to Move It - Will I. Am
Footloose - Kenny Loggins
Eye of the Tiger - Survivor
Hey Mickey - Toni Basil
We Are Family - Sister Sledge
YMCA - Village People
Barbara Ann - Despicable Me Minions
Car Wash - Rose Royce
Feel This Moment - Pitbull
Macarena - Los del Rio
Home - Phillip Phillips
Good Feelin' - Flo Rida
Stereo Hearts - Gym Class Heroes
Free Fallin' - John Mayer
Hey, Soul Sister - Train
867-5309 - Tommy Tutone
Single Ladies - Chipmunks
Should I Stay or Should I Go - The Clash
Firework - Katy Perry
Cupid Shuffle - Cupid

Also have a whole crapload of songs from Kids Bop, like Gangnam Style, Chicken Noodle Soup, Edge of Glory, etc...

Probably not relevant to 3/4 of the board, but thought I'd share.

I kid you not, I had this same research done just a few weeks ago. My niece came up to me, and was dancing to songs on her kiddie MP3 player(she's 3). She asked me if I wanted to see her dance and listen to the Gummy Bear song.

I was like, awesome, she knows the Gummy Bear song. It was not the song that I was thinking about AT ALL.

But that got me into thinking over all of the awesome songs her parents' didn't bother exposing her to.
Of course, all of the Disney Afternoon TV themes like this one, Tail Spin, Duck Tales, Rescue Rangers. Oh man, you can play this stuff around adults too, they'll get a kick out of it.

Some of the songs above I would not approve on the list for kids, but I am more conservative than you. There are a bunch of songs I would, but they are non-secular. Let me know if you want them.

Anything by the band Marilyn Manson should suffice. Kids just love him!

Actually, my niece(other niece, she's 20 now) would sometimes hide and listen to the radio when she was 2-3 years old.

And her favorite song was:

I have two kids and we almost exclusively listen to Christian rock/pop/metal.

There is a lot of really good christian rap out there now. Not goofy stuff but actually really talented guys. Anyone on Reach Records is really good. If you like rap. I've gone almost exclusively Christian music. I big into metal. I make my 13 year old daughter listen to stuff heavy stuff on the way to school sometimes.

Damn... I don't even really know any "kid friendly songs." I was listening to stuff like AC/DC when I was 5 haha.

He said friendly songs... not songs that will make kids off themselves in class.

Barenaked Ladies put out a kids album a few years ago. It's pretty good and my kids (6 & 9) were hooked on it for a long time.
It's a bit corny at times, but way above the crap like Dr. Jean and Barney.

Our favorites are: 789, Eraser, Curious, I Don't Like and Crazy ABC's
