Korver Speaks On Joining Bulls (article)

Korver excited about shooting role with Bulls
By Fred Mitchell

Kyle Korver was not much of a Bulls fan as a youngster in Iowa.

"I thought Michael Jordan was selfish and I hated the Bulls growing up," Korver said. "I was a Lakers fan, because I was actually born in L.A. So 'Show Time' basketball was what I grew up watching. As I got older and worked harder at my game, I came to respect Michael's game that much more, obviously."

The Bulls made it official Tuesday by signing Korver to a free-agent contract. The 6-7, 212-pound, 7-year veteran spent the last two-plus seasons with the Utah Jazz.

"This is really cool to stand here with the Bulls uniform," said Korver, holding up a No. 26 jersey during a news conference at the United Center. "I have played on a couple of different teams during my career, but the Bulls ... that's some pretty serious stuff. It's pretty cool."
The 29-year-old 3-point specialist has played in 517 regular-season games (103 starts), and has career averages of 9.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists. He began his NBA career with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2003, where he played for 4-plus seasons after being drafted in the second round (51st overall).

Last year with Utah, Korver shot a career-best .493 from the field while leading the NBA with a .536 percentage from beyond the arc. He eclipsed the NBA record for long-range shooting that had been set by Steve Kerr (.524) set in 1994-95.

Korver joins former Jazz teammate Carlos Boozer as a member of the Bulls.

"I thought it was the best fit for me," said Korver, who acknowledged that Boozer reached out to him to join him in Chicago. "They need some shooting. I am very comfortable with 'Booz,' obviously. I really love the direction that this team is going. I feel like I fit in really well. I am excited to be a Bull. It really wasn't a negative aspect to coming here. I am really excited."

NOTE: The Bulls also announced the signing of center Omer Asik. Asik, 24, is a two-time Turkish League All-Star (2007, 2008), and has spent the last five seasons in the Turkish Basketball League.
