Olin Kreutz was adamant at the team's minicamp last month that he would be ready for the start of training camp.
It looks like he might even have some time to rest up over the next five weeks or so, too, as Kreutz is on the field today in what is expected to be the Bears' final OTA of the offseason at Halas Hall. The team has a practice scheduled for Thursday but coach Lovie Smith typically takes the team on a bowling outing for the final OTA.
Kreutz snapped the ball to quarterback Jay Cutler early in practice and was moving freely. He's been sidelined since surgery in late January to repair his Achilles tendon which had bothered him for a number of seasons.
"My foot was so bad for so long that it's already almost better than it was," Kreutz said last month at minicamp.
The veteran has made 118 consecutive starts, easily the most on the team. He expects to be stronger this season because he'll have more strength and power in his base now that is foot and leg are healthier.
It will be interesting to see what shakes out at left guard when the Bears get to training camp next month in Bourbonnais. Johan Asiata has been spending a good deal of time with the first team throughout the offseason. Lance Louis and Josh Beekman, the man who has been filling in for Kreutz at center, could factor into the equation too.
