Kudos to KC Johnson for the article that he wrote today defending Derrick Rose in the Tribune.

If you haven't noticed, I hate the media. That is partially why I do these podcasts to begin with. Not just the Chicago media, but all media as a whole. All we see is constantly sensational bull#@# on public figures. It's not enough that 99% of the sensational bull that is reported in sports, entertainment, etc. does not matter 1 bit to me in my daily life. Media outlets have to milk these stories for all they are worth, so they are in your face until you can't ignore them.

In today's day and age, people are so interested in public figures daily lives that small things can dog someones whole career (Ex: Mello in the Video with "Drug Dealers", Dirks Psycho Ex, Kobe's Indescressions, ). The media's goal is to get a story...at any expense.

That is why today's KC article was so refreshing. When I saw this Derrick Rose photo, I didn't care at all. He's was a kid. He has every right to be a kid and there is ALOT more crap that I have done that has been caught on film, which is far stupider then what D-Rose did. There is no reason to judge someone for crap they did before they were in the public eye. Especially if that person is maybe 16-18. Also, from everything we have read about D-Rose he is a stand up guy. This KC article simply confirmed that. This doesn't need to be front page news on ESPN and Chicago Tribune, but it is and that is life. Thank god we still have a few journalists with a little integrity left.

The stuff KC wrote on Derrick is probably right. But he also wrote this about Kirk.

After one home game early in the season, Rose watched as reporters swarmed Kirk Hinrich, that game's star, for interviews. Already showered and dressed, Rose approached a team official and asked if he should wait for reporters to finish with Hinrich so they could interview him or if he could leave.

OCT 28 MIL - 15 Points 7 assists
NOV 1 MEM - 18 Points 4 assists
NOV 7 PHO - 5 points 5 assists

It can't be that Milwaukee game. In that game Gordon had his first double digit fourth quarter of the season to lead the Bulls to victory. Luol Deng was the best overall player with 21 points on 8-13 shooting, although very little in the fourth. Rose also had 9 points and 11 assists, and it was his NBA debut.

So KC has to be referring to the Memphis game. In that Memphis game Derrick Rose had 26 points and Drew Gooden had 20 rebounds. Surely those two were the stars of the game. In the Memphis game Hinrich started off the game hot, but Del Negro exiled him to the bench for an extended period of time for no apparent reason, and Hinrich came back in cold.

In the Phoenix game Ben Gordon had 23 points and 6 assists and Derrick Rose had 18 points and 6 assists.

I don't think KC mistaked a road game for a home game either, as Kirk Hinrich had 6 points against Boston, 4 points against Orlando, and 2 points against Cleveland in the Bulls early season road games.

That's all Hinrich played before getting injured.

So I would like to know why Kirk Hinrich is being hailed as the star of one of those early games, and why all our reporters are swarming to Kirk Hinrich instead of Derrick Rose after the game. That just re-enforces the unfairly positive light that Hinrich gets portrayed in the media.

The Trib should be commended for not just running the AP story, but letting KC Johnson do his own piece on this as well.

I was really hoping that KC would give his take on this & I was glad to read it this morning. It's so tough to find reporters who actually take both sides into account & don't just run with the story that will sell the most papers or get the most web hits. Media in general disgusts me to no end. Not just the unbelievable amount of plain crap that is reported, but the overwhelming sense of fear & anxiety that newpapers & newscasts create is sickening. Case & point, the Swine Flu. I know I'm ranting here but the swine flu has been around for decades & we've heard nothing about it. Some people die in Mexico from it & all of the sudden it's "FLU PANDEMIC: ARE YOU PREPARED?" Now I've got hand sanitizer at every possible entrance & exit from work, at every cubicle, signs all over the place telling me if I'm sick I should go home, like I didn't know that already. The only thing reporting on the swine flu has done, other than scare alot of the stupid sheep out there, is increase the sales for Purell.
