I am very surprised that Schwarber continues to hit such monster HR shots, considering he only had 377 PAs in the minor leagues.
I think he's just one of those rare guys with the combination of vision and strength. A scout acquaintance of mine (a friend of a friend actually) said that he was one of only a few hitters he had ever seen who would have been OK at the plate in MLB the day after he was drafted.
Ben: Who is the better hitter: Bryant or Schwarber?
Dave Cameron: Bryant, by a lot.
I'm not 100% sure of that but time will tell the tale. Either way it will be fun watching them both. In fairness though the scout I mentioned above thinks Bryant will be a better hitter than Schwarber as well. He just found it remarkable how MLB ready Schwarber was at the plate coming out of college.
I think Schwarber has some flaws people are over looking because of his power and the streaks he went on. He was abysmal against lefties. I still think he lacks elite bat speed. He is a good hitter, but I think Bryant is far ahead at this point. Both are great options, but I think people get enamored with the monster blast he has hit.
You can't hit the ball as far as Schwarber does without elite bat speed.I think Schwarber has some flaws people are over looking because of his power and the streaks he went on. Schwarber projected to a 162 game season last year would have hit 38 HR. That's right outside of the Top 10 in MLB last season (Encarnacion 39). Your question is right. Are there that many elite bats?So he hit three homers over 420 last year. His longest of the year was 450 tied for 86th, avg distance was about 39. Are there that many elite bats?

You're looking at distance only. Distance is often reliant on weather-related conditions. You should go to a college showcase some time and watch "elite bat speed" by radar readings off a tee and then watch most of them whiff against live pitching. Elite is putting the bat on the ball and consistently hitting the ball veryhard, which regularly puts the ball over the fence. Notice you stated "Elite bat" and not "Elite Bat Speed". I agree. "Elite Bat" is a combination of bat speed and hand/eye. Elite bat speed doesn't mean jack in and of itself. Just look at the struggle Baez had without barrel control.I can't let you off that easy. Re-read what you wrote. You specifically said "You can't hit the ball as far as Schwarber does"
That has nothing to do with total hit or projections. I'm willing to be educated here, but you got to bring something to the table.

And he had to quiet it all down in order to have success.Baez bat speed is what allowed/ allows him to get away with funky mechanics. He doesn't have that elite bat speed. He would be a AAAA player.
He had 70/70 rating for Raw Power. That comment makes no sense. His knock coming out was lack of elite bat speed. He hasn't changed anyones minds on it.

Raw power has nothing to do with bat speed.
Schwarber may have the most raw power of any prospect in the class, showing plus-plus power to right field thanks to tremendous lower body strength and strong wrists. He transfers his weight well and has the type of raw power that could produce 30-plus homer seasons if he's able to play every day. He shows good feel at the plate, and a willingness to work pitches and get on base via walk, but doesn't have elite bat speed and there's a lot of swing-and-miss in his bat as well.
