I hate to be a dickhead, because it kind of sucks for Ladd, but does his shoulder injury allow us to sign him for another year on the cheap? Going to be hard for him to get a substantial offer from another team when it is not clear how his shoulder will heal. This might allow us to bring him back for roughly the same salary as what he made this year. Has to be good news. ;)

Yeah, just ask Marian Hossa.

LOL, comparing the two is laughable, and you know that as well as I do. Ladd is a third line grinder and a role player. Hossa is a superstar and a 50 goal scorer... Really?

So basically you just answered your own question. Maybe it's just me but I'd think a shoulder injury may have deeper consequences for a sniper rather than a grinder.

Demand >>>> Supply in Hossa's case though. So, if you can sign him, you do it. Shoulder injury or not. Not the same situation for Ladd. Not even close actually. I can't see anyone giving a guy like Ladd anything more than a year or two, knowing that his shoulder might need surgery, and that you likely won't know for another few weeks after free agent signings begin. He is an unknown for everyone outside of the Hawks' organization right now. I can actually see him coming back next year, and if you had asked me a month ago, that wouldn't have been the case.

His shoulder wasn't just "injured"...it was fractured, and he played with it that way.

Oh...good point, one I obviously overlooked.

I never thought it was automatic Ladd was leaving to begin with, but maybe this makes it easier to keem him.
