If you're gonna be an English teacher, you have to learn Old English first.

AP English teacher in high school once spoke some "Old English" to us.... or she jumbled some sounds together and claimed it was "Old English", I was tempted to ask her if she had suffered a stroke and if not to stop blathering incoherently and start teaching.

With Twitter only allowing 140 characters, are modern English will soon be "Old English". Thanks a lot, Bin Laden.

I enjoyed learning old and middle English. It's rather rewarding to be able to read things like Beowulf or Chaucer properly while others sit there and furrow their brows in a feeble attempt to understand.
