Derrek Lee was asked on Saturday if he regretted his decision to veto a trade to the Angels in light of Chicago's struggles.

"It's two separate issues," Lee replied. "It's no fun. We're not playing well right now, just a lot of losses. Even when you feel like you play a really good game, you end up losing it. It's tough.

"But what do you do? You keep grinding. Hopefully we can turn it around and finish the season up strong."

The Cubs were eight games under .500 when Lee vetoed the trade and they are now 19 games under.

"First of all, when I made the decision, we weren't playing this bad," he said. "I just separate it. I don't look at it like, 'Oh, I made the decision to stay, I wish I hadn't.' I made the decision, and that's over with, and this is something else."

And this is why Derrek Lee is one of the Cubs' fans favorite players. He is so dedicated to this team, that even when he could have bolted to a team that had a shot to contend, he stayed with the struggling Cubs. Great to see from Derrek Lee.

Thoughts?

I like Lee as a player and wouldn't mind him back next season. I know people would but I'm, indifferent. He's a team player and that's what I like from players. He's also a family person because his family wanted to stay in Chicago.

Well, I would love to have him back next season as well, and he very well might be, but would he be able to start?

.256 AVG, 16 HR's, 56 RBI, .335 OBP.

Those aren't the numbers that are going to get him to start. I'm sorry to say this, but I think that age may be catching up to D-Lee. Hopefully not, and he can start picking that average especially up towards the end of this season, but he's not helping his cause with those numbers.

The thing that might help him is that the Cubs really don't have much else at first base. Hoffpauir is about the only other guy they have that is MLB ready, and he hasn't done anything at all this year...so Lee might very well get another year or two at first for the Cubs.

There's no one else for the price the Cubs will pay. Dunn will make 12+M in FA and that's too much, pena will make good money and I pick Lee over him, and there's no one in the minors that can start at 1B right away.

Hmm doesn't regret playing for a team 18 games under .500?

He's hoping to get another famous Jim Hendry contract, that's why, lol

No, he won't as for much.

I think he will come back on a 1 year 5M, with a TO worth 7M. If JH offered it.

Good point, LAA was farther out than we were when this happened. They just had a better record.

Lee is making 13M this year... so 12M would be less...
