In a similar way that Utah had Moses Malone and Adrian Dantley and drafted Dominique Wilkins, listen to who the Mavericks had in 1985:

The 85 Mavs had Mark Aguirre, Rolondo Blackman, Dale Ellis, Derek Harper, Sam Perkins, Detlef Schrempf and Bill Wennington.

Why didn't this team win the last 5 championships of the 80's!?

That's a lot of guys...

Because of the Lakers ha ha.

Schrempf didn't do much until he got to Indiana. Bill Wennington was just a bench warmer then. The team was good, they took the Lakers to 7 games in the 88 WCF but just not good enough.

I guess they could be compared to the Kings of earlier this decade that just couldn't get past the Lakers.

Had the Jazz kept Bernard King, Moses Malone, Adrian Dantley and Dominique Wilkins (and possibly even STILL getting Stockton or Malone) they would have won the next 12 championships.

If only they knew...

I never knew that Wilkins was drafted by the Jazz but refused to sign with them.

I forgot to mention that the Mavericks ALSO drafted a guy named Mark Price that summer. Man oh man what a dynasty there could have been in Dallas.

You know another little-known fact?

The Bulls didn't just get Pippen for Polynice. They got Pippen AND a draft pick that became B.J. Armstrong. Not bad huh? For Olden Polynice, who the last sight we saw of him was arrested for impersonating a police officer for the second time. In Utah. I actually met him once and spoke to him for a minute or so and the whole time i was nervous because this guy is nuts!

Or what about how the Lakers traded someone unimportant with Cleveland and they got a number one pick that just happened to be THE number one where they got James Worthy?

Didn't the Celtics get McHale in a similar way?

Possibly worst of all is the opposite when a team FAILED to hit the ocean. The Pistons, a team just about to win the championship with the following choices at number 2:

Carmelo Anthony
Dwyane Wade
Chris Bosh

...Or Darko Milicic.

Granted, they really didn't need Melo because they have Rip Hamilton but can you IMAGINE if they took Dwyane Wade?

I think that would have been the dynasty of the 2000's, just as much, if not MORE than the Lakers.

Remember when the Lakers still had Shaq and Kobe and they got Karl Malone and Gary Payton and everyone was saying they were going to dominate the next 2 or 3 championships? lol

I've never seen anything like it, those four guys standing there in their Lakers jerseys in that picture.

What a bunch of jerks...

When you get egos that big it rarely works (or older like when the Rockets had Olajuwon, Barkley and Pippen and Olajuwon, Drexler and Barkley).

At least Ray Allen is humble and they got him and Garnett at the perfect time.

The fact Karl Malone was injured for the finals probably had more to do with them not winning than ego.

That Laker team was absolutely embarrassed. How does a team with 4 future HOF players in the starting lineup not win the championship? I don't care about chemistry, that team should have won.

Malone did get injured come to think of it didn't he?

We can add that to the "What If" category.

If there was no lockout in 98-99 and Malone had a healthy last season he would have surpassed Kareem on the all-time points list.

Like if that moron never killed Jordan's dad we would have at least 2 more rings and the Bulls would have won 8 straight titles.
