Lockout Question

Let's say the lockout does take all season. Again, just in the hypothetical. What happens to players who are free agents for next season?

For instance, Kurt Thomas is a free agent going into the 2011-2012 season. Obviously, once the season starts up again he will enter into free agency. DRose is a free agent for the 2012-2013 season. Does that skip a year? Meaning, since he wouldn't be pulling a paycheck this what would be the 11-12 season, does that mean he gets an extra contract year in 12-13? Or would he just receive backpay?

Well, I should correct myself. If this season doesn't happen then Rose would be a restricted free-agent during the summer of 2012 (assuming that a new CBA was signed by July 1st, 2012). So Rose would still be in Chicago because the Bulls would undoubtedly match any offer sheet. But it wouldn't get to that point anyway because the Bulls would offer him a (likely) max extension.

If there was no 2012-13 season, then Rose would be an unrestricted free-agent.
