I posted my thoughts in another thread, but so enjoyed Logan and the Deadpool teaser tonight I thought they deserved their own post.
Logan:
Excellent film. Represents the very best of the X-Men movie-verse IMO. And I say "film" because it actually was more than just a comic book movie. Dark, dense, and moody. Great story with actors clearly giving their all. Didn't pull any punches. Was worried some elements of the story were going to get cute with his daughter. They didn't, and really kept it grounded in reality. Loosely based on 'Old Man Logan' comic story. Really loosely, as it included many elements of other plot points and characters dating back to late 80's and early 90's Uncanny X-Men.
Back in the day, I was a huge Marvel comic fan. Uncanny X-Men and Wolverine were my top two titles. This film was ironic for me in many ways, because the first issue of X-Men I actually bought in 1989 was when Wolverine was captured and tortured by the Reavers at their Australian base. Since then have been dying to see them depicted on the big screen. And wow. I couldn't have been more happy to see how they adapted Donald Pierce and his gang of murdering cyborgs/mercenaries.
As a fan of Marvel, this was a perfect movie (and I want to be clear: I HATED his origin movie. The studio really screwed the pooch on that one). Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart were at their very best. It was clear to me that 20th Century Fox was not out to make shameless cash-grab (especially after that back-alley abortion Age of Apocalypse). They were committed to giving the die-hard fans an authentic film adaptation that truly captured the violent and tragic essence of Wolverine by producing one last hell of a heart-felt ride for Logan and Professor X. Not how I expected the X-Men (assuming they are all but deceased) to end up, but I am more sad than disappointed with how it went down with the Westchester incident. A very interesting and dark twist. This was most definitely an end of an era for this franchise. Really great to see Jackman get to end his portrayal of Logan in this fashion.
X-Men fans will love this film. Even the purists I suspect. And the rest of the audience? I think you'll like it too. Without a shred of doubt the most complete and refined entry in the franchise to date.
BTW, the Deadpool teaser at the beginning is worth it's weight in gold. Can't imagine this one will disappoint.
Also saw the Wonder Women trailer for the first time tonight. Must say, looks damn good. Can't be any worse than Suicide Squad at least. Also, she has a magic lasso>>>Dave Chappelle on Wonder Woman
