I really don't need a phone except for emergencies so with me changing jobs this past week I had to give back my cell.

I'm looking for an android pay as you go phone with wi-fi. Ideally something that I put money onto the phone which can expire say every 6 months and just use the wi-fi at the office/house. Any suggestions out there?

I do something similar, because Data plans are useless to me. But I like the tech side of things, so it's going to be hard for me to suggest anything to you. I'm running a Dami Y5 with my own custom rom file, and dual booted Android 4.0 custom rom. It's the product of the competitive cloned phone market place, so I can't recommend it to anyone without being a real techie(not some app-lover/gadget consumer that claims to be a techie). I do know someone who has the LG optimus elite on virgin, and they love it, but it's about half of the performance of most new phones.

Page Plus is the best right now for PAYG(phone options, coverage, price plans), but the availability in this area is a total joke. Some people in this area are taking the risk to buy services and handsets online, just to get in on the ground floor with the contracts. Maybe not the best idea, but it's another option that people overlook, away from the local supported cricket/boost/virgin(and USCellular? I forgot if they do a PAYG, and I don't feel like doing the google work for you.)

Thanks Crys. I did some google work but most have the pay as you go as a non contract month to month deal. Too much outlay for that.

It is Pay as you go. The phrase says everything. However, month to month does allow you to pay ahead. If your contract is $30 a month, and you pay $240, then how is that any different than a 6-month contract in essence?

Another good thing to note, if you buy the phone for GSM, your obligation is linked to a SIM card. If you use WCDMA, you're able to do the same thing with CDMA carriers with the ESN. Then you have phones with both capabilities.
