Being 6'4", my issue is that nearly all desks are too low and the openings are too narrow, and I'm not interested in installing risers/casters to take a desk with already bad storage and organization design, and losing yet another two inches of space underneath for dust to hide(hide being the key word, because it's not tall enough to reasonably reach on cleaning day without moving the whole thing and using vacuums around computers(a big no-no) and short enough for everything to slip under without much notice).
I used to roll my eyes at people who put a plank on top of two fancy filing cabinets, but it seems like that is a simple design that stands the test of time better than nearly everything sold at your favorite office store.
My main desk is ghetto as hell. Just a used sandusky/late-gen tanker style with a few hacks. Old school as hell, but I have comfortable amount of space for everything I need I highly doubt Omelet would approve, heck, most people wouldn't. Looks too much like their old teachers desk. But it cost me less than $150 to do up completely, including the keyboard tray and modified glides that don't make that nasty squeak and creek sound when you use any drawers, some roofers seam tape wedged in the inner corners to dampen sound(like cheap dynamat). The only thing I never did was apply a new top/veneer. Which I've gone back and fourth with, because I don't like MDF since it warps over time.
