Wow.... I wish I had lived here long enough to know any of the chicago only ones... The Car spindle is the only one I recognized outside of showbiz and discovery zone cause those were chains in my area.

I remember several of them by name only and I think Discover Zone I actually went to once. Comiskey several times. Of course Showbiz Pizza before it became Chucky Cheese.

I do remember Kiddieland and Santa's Village but don't think I ever went to either. I remember my sister seeing New Kids on the Block at Poplar Creek but never made it to a concert there myself.

I think my mom went to that Kiddie Land place when she was a kid and visiting relatives in Chicago. I remember her saying something about Riverview too.

Did "Discovery Zone" really need to be on this list?

Went to Santa's Village many-a-time...

Nope.... I was going to ask, but thought it might have been some chicago cult thing.

Great thread Tater. Definitely some memories in those pictures.

The ones that really stand out to me are Old Chicago, Kiddieland and Comiskey.

There are a number of others that would be worthy to be on there like Santa Fe Speedway, the Shriners Circus downtown, the monster Christmas tree in the middle of Marshall Field's, and of course,

Chicago Stadium!

In high school, I saw Blue Oyster Cult and Foghat at the Intl. Amphitheater. Man, what a dump.

Major props for the Thirsty Whale... while I was a bit young to attend any shows there - the folks I knew in bands had pretty much set it to "legendary" status.

Trying to think of one's that I went to as a kid or teenager not on that list. For me "Off the Alley" would be on there.

There was a different Kiddieland in Shererville, IN we went to a lot as a kid because my grandparents lived right on the border of Illinois/Indiana.

Do you mean "The Alley"?

The one like they had in Woodfield mall that sold black concert t-shirts and "smoking" accesories?

That was Phil's first show. Headlining on a Friday night at the Thirsty Whale.

I think a bar opened in Elgin or somewhere down 90 called the Thirsty Whale. I don't know if it is the same guy/family that had the original.

The original "The Alley Chicago" is on Bellmont near Wrigley Field. That place was huge in size and popularity during the 90s. They have since downsized and consolidated.

That's right out by me off of Randall Road. I haven't been there yet but my friends band plays there. I'll have to ask him if it's the same owners.

My old band actually played at the original when we were to young to even be in a bar. I think we were all around 19 or so.

My Friend Phil was 17. I just missed the Whale by a year or 2.
