The Bulls took the first step toward building for the future by introducing new head coach Tom Thibodeau Wednesday.
Lovie Smith hopes the next move involves LeBron James.
With NBA free agency quickly approaching, the Bears coach offered his take on the LeBron-to-Chicago campaign.
``I'm a diehard Bulls fans so, of course, I want LeBron here,'' Smith said. ``This is Chicago. The tradition of basketball and having the chance to be a Bull ... and we're close. We just need another major, franchise-type player like LeBron.
``We're a playoff team. To add a player like that can get you over the hump.''
Maybe Smith should offer James, a former standout receiver in high school, a few snaps in Mike Martz's offense.
Smith was amazed from the moment he first saw James in an NBA game.
``Just look at a man that size with that type of athletic ability ... it's kind of like Julius Peppers for us,'' Smith said. ``A man that size with small-guy skills. That's what you see in LeBron.
``I would love to see him here. It's safe to say we will have season tickets if he comes.''
James is scheduled to be in New York for Thursday's NBA Draft, according to a source close to the player. That should ignite more rumors about ``King James'' joining the Knicks.
