I consider myself a loyal person. Almost to a fault, I'm fairly loyal. Lately, I'm wondering about a few things in my life that maybe I should look past my loyalty to better myself.

So, how far do you guys go with loyalty? When do you set that aside?

With people it should be a two way street. If you have a friend that you are loyal to and they shit all over that it is easy to see why you are wasting your loyalty on them.

In a lot of ways, I'm a loyal person. But I'm not a servant. I don't think those two are the same thing.

I will do right to those who do right by me. I will not continue to be blindly loyal (or a servant) to those who don't care about me or wrong me.

I think loyalty must be earned, and then maintained.

Loyalty means I stand by you whether you are right or wrong but I will tell you when you are wrong and make sure you get it right.

That being said loyalty is something earned, not given outright. If you got my back I got yours.

A group that I belong to. I'm worried that it's going to end with me the last one left with the bag in my hand. So I wonder if getting out now is the best thing for me.

Well, without knowing too much of the situation all i can say is that loyalty doesn't necessarily mean blindness. If the issue has to do with legality or moral injustice then it's more loyal to bring that up than to just be blind to it. No one should be loyal to something illegal or unethical unless you're in a secret group of killer ninjas. Then it's full loyalty until death.

But if everyone in your group is jumping ship leaving you behind with the bag what's the point of even pondering loyalty? Unless you're loyal to the cause, rather than the members of your group, then it's a different story.

Too large of a subject to address simply. I give my loyalty fairly quickly, but if you lose it - very hard to get back.

Being loyal to those that are loyal to you is easy. Being loyal to the difficult people in your life is hard. However I agree with the previous mentions that there's a line between being loyal and being a punching bag and that there's a time to dust the sandals so to speak.
