Anyone gone hiking in Machu Picchu? Thinking about maybe doing a 2 week adventure to Galapagos Islands and then hiking up Machu Picchu.

Yes, back in '07. Started in Quito, spent a day in Otavalo, about a week on a smallish cruise ship in the Gallapagos, a few days in Machu Picchu, a couple days in Cuzco. Magical, the trip of a lifetime. Do it if you can.

I was just there a few weeks ago. It was fucking awesome.
Two things I'll warn you about.
1.) Exchange or withdraw cash at your hotel and inspect it. I got counterfeit money from an ATM.....twice.
2.) Leave the absolute minimum amount of skin exposed while hiking and quadruple coat yourself with the strongest DEET ridden bug spray you can find. There are swarms of sand fleas and they DO NOT **** around. My wife had/still has like 100 bites on her calves/ankles.
She weighs like 100#, swollen like crazy the same night.
Make sure you eat some guinea pig (cuy) while youre there. Peru has the best food in South America. Like the sand fleas, Pisco sours don't **** around either.

It's going to take well over 2 weeks for you to beat enough women into submission to carry you the 1500+ miles from the Galapagos to Machu Picchu (who knows how many may drown on that swim!).
