Columbus is in 6th with a maximum possible point total of 60 by the end of the season. Fire sit at 50 with 10 games left. So the magic number (tie-breaker ignored) is 11. That is 3 wins, 2 ties, and a loss in our last six games even if Columbus wins out.

Note that next week, we can cut that by three with our win alone, but playing Columbus it cuts three more. Huge matchup.

Toronto and New England are eliminated from the playoffs and Montreal and Philadelphia max is 51, so it's 2 for Montreal (they have tie breaker over us 44 GF vs 40 GF) and 1 for Philadelphia. Phialdelphia and Montreal won't be catching us.

Columbus 11
Houston 12
DC United 13
New York 18

It's one less if we have more goals then any of those teams, which have against Columbus and Houston only has one more then we do.

I highly doubt Columbus catches us too at this point, we have a pretty safe chance.

I agree.....We will lower the magic number by 6 this weekend, when we beat Cowtown......

We will finish in the top three, the other two will be New York and Kansas City......

I'm still holding out a shimmer of hope for Supporter's Shield just because Champions League would be cool

SS is pretty much not going to happen, if we win out we would end up with 68pts, San Jose stands at 60pts with 4 games to go, but stranger things have happened....

San Jose remaining schedule home (FC Dallas and Los Angeles) away (Colorado and Portland)

Ya, probably no SS, just have to hope that if we make it to MLS Cup that it isn't against San Jose so we can get home turf.

If Columbus ties or loses to KC we clinched a playoff spot. If KC loses we get within 2pts of first place with two games to go.

Which you you rather have the playoffs clinched or get within two points of first place.

I think the best case would be they tie, we clinch and are three point within first place. We have games against New England away and DC United home, KC have games against New York away and Philadelphia home. So if we win both and they split there two games we would be in first place.

Let's see what happens tomorrow to see if any of this could happen.

I need to start counting better, I keep screwing up when I try to count this because I forget to take the points lost out of the max, feel idiotic now.

DC United 5

Columbus loses or ties we are in, but I think we want them to win. That would put us 2 points within KC. With games at NE and vs. DC I think we qualify for the playoffs. It would nice if we finish first and have home field advantage through the easternern conference.

Ya, either outcome would be bittersweet I guess, neither are really all that great though. Maybe a tie so we clinch and stay close, idk.

New York 4
DC United 5

PLAYOFFS

Columbus tied with Kansas City, so we are three points within a Kasas City for first place.

We win out (@ New England and vs. DC United) and have Kansas City get no more than three pts out of last two games (EASTERN CONFERENCE CHAMPS!!!!).

Playoffs!!!!!!!! Gonna write up an article about the season so far after the Bears game ends!!!!

So pumped right now!

Fire clinch, stay 3 points out, Bears winning big, and Packers lose to Indianapolis, just a really good day for me.

I feel like we competed with SKC the whole game, dominating 2nd half, with adequate refereeing in a potential playoff matchup, we're legit contenders for the East crown, maybe even the Cup.
