This is pretty sad, but I have to admit I giggled when I read what happened. Partially because I had done the exact same thing, and from a chick that was probably a little more threatening (a girl that played on the girls rugby team in college). I didn't bet anything though, I just let her hit me.



i dont believe, the girl should be convicted of jack shit, even if she knew she could throw a punch, her intent was not to kill the guy. I understand this moms grief, but come on, it was what I think anyone prior to the result would look at as a fairly harmless game.



I seriously never in a million years would have thought it could threaten my life and vice versa never would think in a million years I as a fairly strong dude could kill an adult with one punch. I mean people that beat the shit out of eachother for a living its rare to see someone die, and even then its after a pounding and not just one punch.



On the same token....what if thats not what happened at all.

The fact that they watched him die while agreeing on a story and getting all the underage drinkers out of the party tells me we don't have the whole story. Probably should be investigated at the least, wouldn't surprise me if involuntary man slaughter is charged.

I just cant see getting punched in the face, doing what they said happened. The artery in your neck is buried next to the spine covered by muscle, i think it would take a hell of alot more blunt force truama than a punch, let alone one from a girl.



"If" the story is 100% completely true, I mean I cant blame them for freaking out and initially wanting to cover up what really happened. They had no idea what could happen to them and since they knew it was not intentional didnt see any harm in attempting to cover up the truth to protect themselves.



Also, again if true, if she gets prosecuted, it opens a door, can MMA fighters/boxers etc. get charged if they inadvertently kill someone in the ring? 999,999 times out of 1000000, the guy at worse gets a bruise and thats that, this was a freakish accident. Any of us could have already done something that could have killed somebody if this did.



They have to take into account the precieved danger of the activity that took place. you could have polled the world and I think 99.9999% wouldnt think a chick punching some dude in the face on a dare would kill him, let alone result in a serious injury.

May not have been the punch, but falling to the ground and bouncing his melon off the floor that killed him. Still don't like that they watched him gurgle, got the story straight and hearded the underage drinkers out before calling 911. Definately deserves an investigation.

Gotta agree with Pete here - dude ASKED for it.



The real issue here is the cover-up bullshit - THAT'S who this mother should be angry at... that's why not just the girl, but everyone involved should be punished. It's one thing to **** up, wholly another to realize you have done so and negligent to the point of causing the death of someone else.

yeah everybody seems to be missing the part where, he wanted her to punch him. If she just clocked him out of left field, sure I think there should be some charges, but he asked for it. Again you have to take into account the precieved danger as to what was going on, the guy didnt ask her to shoot him in the leg with his glock, in that instance i would say yes, grow a brain and realize you could kill him.



What if two teenagers are wrestling around on one of those big trampolines, one falls awkwardly after being pushed by the other kid, breaks his neck and dies. Its an accident. If you can prosecute one you can prosecute the other.



unfortunately you cant always think before you do something, especially when what you are doing doesn't seem dangerous at all. We have all done something, that could have, if you take into account all possibilities, killed another or ourselves and I personally dont think any of it would warrant jail time.



Intent means everything here. I do on the otherhand believe there should be a punishment that fits the crime of covering it up.

While the death was an accident, I could see some folks getting probation out of this (ie the puncher, the home owner/game organizer). They tried to cover up a death that could be viewed and tried as involuntary manslaughter. That's wrong. But does that deserve jail time, no imho. If convicted of involuntary manslaugter (which probably won't happen to this girl) then a jail sentence is mandatory in IL, I believe.

It may have led to his death but it was an exception not a rule. It was stupid. What could be gained from the death and I would be happy to thin the heard here if only it would actually make a difference. The problem is that the herd of 20000 idiots lighting fireworks off in their ass, doesn't seem to be thinning soon. It leads to this mentality that people are indestructible and can do whatever they want with no consequences. Do I wish the kid died, of course not, but I'm just tired of these stories even happening at all. No reason for this, no reason for the bet, no reason for the punch, and seriously. WHO THE **** CARES IF IT WAS A GIRL? I've seen videos of this same basic situation online between two dudes and they stone cold knock them out. If it was a guy that had hit him the situation would probably be slightly different but in the end, I agree that it's the actions afterward that are even more appalling than the hit itself.
