Man finds out his daughter isnt his after 15 years, and sues the biological father for the cost of raising the child. (according to the story it sounds like hes giving up rights to the child to the biological father)

The thing here is, while it is a nearly unforgivable betrayal by his wife (who probably knew the kid wasnt his). I dont know how you can raise a child for that long then just be like **** it, once you find out its not yours. This is irrelevant to the child for the most part, the one they care about is the one they developed an emotional bond with.

I mean I can for sure understand what a tool he must feel like unwittingly taking care of some other douchebags kid, feeling like he was the butt of a 15 year long joke, but how could you just toss the kid aside like that?

I go back to a documentary I watched years ago, based on statistics it conluded in marriages with children at least one child is, unbeknownst to the father, not his in 50% of worldwide unions. (note this was a worldwide study, and not specific to the US).

Depends--some are hard-wired to think Blood and Genetics is the extent of family. Plus, it sounds like he was married and had an additional kid with the woman and she cheated on him.

Either that or he's trying to recoup some of the costs of actually raising her from her real father--especially since it sounds like his buisness partner was involved and propbably didn't drp a dime (and possibly knew, but I'm guessing there). Don't know. It sucks to be the girl but on the other hand, how many people's lives are screwed up by the immaturity and self-centeredness of their parents?

<----------- Raises my hand. However, at some point you have to grow the **** up and stop using your parents as an excuse for the rest of your life.

Not sure if i have ever heard of a law suite like this before. I could see how a lawyer would think thy could win the case (or at least settle out of court). Courts better be careful in setting precedence with this one. Could create a lot of new cases and many fraudulent ones at that.

I actually agree with one of the comment posters who said they should do mandatory DNA testing against the parents to prove parentage at birth, You can outright prevent situations like this from ever happening, since apparently, fathers raising children that are unknowingly not theirs is rather commonplace.

That doc I mentioned basically said women are biologically wired to search out a man to essentially be the provider of genetic material and another for actual fatherly qualities to rear the kids.

15 year old girl eh?

let's see, a teenage girl, who, and this is speculation here, with the example of parents she has, I bet she is a holy terror. Probably doesn't listen to authority, wouldn't doubt it if she says "I do what I want".

I can't blame the fella for saying that.

If we were all provided with complete identity profiles at birth (and subsequently national ID cards) that included physical description as well as a DNA profile, I think a ton of issues would be prevented. People would be wrongfully convicted of some crimes less often, experiences like the one this father had would happen less often, and people would always know their genetic lineage. Just as we have a right to life and liberty in this country, we should have a right to know who we are and where we come from.

It could be used just for that purpose and destroyed, if there are privacy issues people have, i.e. if you just dont want people having your DNA. I unfortunately lost that privilege in the Army the Gubm'nt done has my DNA.

That sounds a bit Orwellian too me. Pass.

And if one of my kids biological male parent wasn't me, fine, but I'm definately their father and have robbed the other assbag of the joy of raising his child.

Not that they are, all my kids bear hallmarks of my family genetics (facial features, dental anomolies, skeletal anomolies ect...).

That was my point. If she's worth a smeg she will go beyond the bastardry of her parents, adapt, and come out fine--like you and many here appear to have done. If fact, i don't think there's a single human alive whose liufe isn't somewhat screwed up--just like there's no such thing as a functional family.

I wouldn't necessarily say the "joy of raising a child" since I was an outright hellion, but on one hand, I think that nowadays the life lessions, ideas, and thought processes you pass onto a kid and the ones that they take with them and implement when they are an adult mean far more than simple genetics (even though genetics may still be a factor). While the biological father may contribute to, say, their eye color, something you do rasing a kid (yours or not) that you teach them and tht they btring into adulthood can matter far, far much more to the survival and betterment of the specie (like if the bio father was a complete ******* and you taught the kid to be responsible and upstanding).
