The newest addition to the Chicago Bulls, Marquis Teague, called into ESPN Radio’s Waddle & Silvy to talk about the NBA Draft and being chosen by the Bulls:
How surprised were you that the Bulls called your number?
I was pretty surprised, I thought my name would be called earlier, but I’m happy with the situation I’m in. I’m feeling great about playing for the Bulls.
On not working out for the team prior to draft night:
I heard they had liked me, and things like that, but I never had the chance to go out to the facility and work out for them.
On Derrick Rose:
I haven’t had the chance to talk to him yet, but I can’t wait to get the chance to talk to him. [Coach Cal] told me he’s one of the most hard working guys he’s ever had, that he’s so talented, and he’s just a leader.
On his strength and weaknesses:
My best strength is my quickness and my speed, being able to get to the rim and finish and create plays for my teammates. And my weakness – I still got to get more consistent from the outside, just trying to get my outside shot a lot better.
On talking with his brother (Jeff plays for the Hawks) about joining the Bulls:
He just told me they were a great team, big on defense, and a tough team to play against.
On playing for Kentucky and winning the national title:
I think it’s going to help a lot, I’ve got the experience of playing with talented guys and I know what it takes to come in and win. Just to come in and work hard – and I’ll be ready.
Are you a better player than your brother?
I think I am (laughs).
