People can't look this up themselves? Cutler has faced the Bengals prior to the Atkins injury. They are rated highly. Minnesota with Harrison Smith and pre-other injuries. Minny had a defense. They faced the Saints, the New York Giants, the Steelers, and the Lions (Terrible Cutler game). Those are some tough defenses that Cutler faced and some bad Jay moments in there too. Saints, he had free blitzes at him. That I remember. Regardless, it is a minor stat in the bigger picture of things, but people just need to take a step back on McCown. He has been incredible, even Warner-esque, but everyone knows who the more talented QB is. I think McCown is more consistent, but even his career suggests that there are some serious limitations there that can be exposed quickly with a good defense. Hell he has had more INTs overturned by penalties in two games than Cutler in his entire career.

Well if you can't remember a game winning drive(which you have to watch the whole game to see) then your'e fucked in the head. When Jay finishes a game ins't that a full game? How many great D's have McCown played against?

It sure seems as if someone is fucked in the head.

Perhaps the person having trouble grasping what exactly is meant by "full game."

Cutler beat the Saints and the Bengals... Both of them are neck and neck at 5 and 6 in ppg defensively this year...

This Cutler vs McCown argument is getting real stupid. Bears fans have gone 30 years without a decent QB, now we have 2 and half the fucking board wants to get rid of one. What do you care what it will cost to keep Cutler, it's not your money. Your not in charge of signing players and staying within the salary cap.

Baltimore is the only true defensive team that McCown has faced. St. Louis is also a possible argument. The remaining teams are terrible on defense. Cleveland may provide another challenge altogether. Moral to the story.... consider the competition and stop being bipolar bears fans. It is a what have you done for me lately league, but stop assuming that McCown is a godsend. Cutler is the future for the Bears, unless another draft pick is taken. McCown has been incredible for us, but the nonsense has to stop. Considering the struggles vs. the Rams and Vikings without their starting Safety... things need to be put in their correct perspectives.

Cutler's history. You want a link, I read it in a magazine, you whore, Cutty and the Jets.

The only stats I care about are the fact that McCown doesnt turn the fucking ball over at a regular pace. Thats what Cutler is and always will be

I am very happy with McCowns performance and I am very pleased that he is our backup. Cutler is by far the better quarterback, but McCown could start for a lot of teams in this league with the performances that he has had lately. I really hope we are able to keep both of these quarterbacks going forward into next season. If the starting quarterback was missing a lot of games due to injury in the season they wouldn't have a chance at the playoffs, let alone winning many games. What we have right now on offense is what we need to keep intact moving forward. Our focus now needs to shift toward how do we fix the defense?

Are u referring to the Minn game, in which he had numerous turnovers...one int at minn 4 yard line, other around Minn 35 yard line...
Or the fumble they picked up and returned for 6?

Thank god for Jennings pick 6 which helped Cutler be in the position for a game winning drive.

A metric these stats doesn't take into consideration that goes along with this analysis is how did those defenses wind up with these defensive rankings? What offenses did these defenses face to get to that point in the rankings? Did they face really good offenses and perform well against those offenses as a defense? AKA did they hold a really good offense below their season averages or did they beat up on really bad offenses?

These are what FootballOutsiders quantifies with their Value Over Average. They've compiled a point of average for every position and team since 1989 and when an offense or a player excels beyond that point of average it's how they come up with their metric over average.

You've compiled one part of the formula that goes into the metric formula now you have to go the rest of the way....or just go to Football Outsiders and read where they have McCown rated and where his VALUE over the average of every QB performance since 1989 rates.

Great post, also it doesn't show how Cutler faced a Giants team at the time was giving up 30+ points a game. We were the first team to fail to reach that milestone.....according to ops stats provided they would be a better defense then anything McCown has faced lol.

Also they point out the Redskins yet Cutler was struggling to move the ball. He was gifted field position on a Tillman int which resulted in a Forte td run and a good return by Hester. Yet he threw a pick 6 and was struggling to get first downs.

He also has garbage time stats against Saints and Lions...who went into a basic shell defense because of huge leads

Cutler played much healthier and fresh defenses since it was the beginning of the year.
Let's not also forget that the offense in general has had more time to gel when McCown came in and started. Cutler who was already playing good in the offense will only play better than he ever has.
