Fielder is going to be soooo bad in like 2 years.

Hamilton may, CC will be bad.

Arod's is bad. Jose Reyes, especially if his legs go out.

People can call JR cheap, but at least the Sox are rarely burned by big contracts.

I'm not a fan of shelling out big money for a large span of years. Recent contracts are proving my point on this. A player's peak production is during his late 20s to early 30s. Anything beyond that is a crap shoot. You'll get guys like Konerko, who still produced pretty effectively into his late 30s, then you get guys like a-rod who completely fall off the map. I know the trend in baseball is huge contracts and it's not going to change anytime soon, but I am not in favor of them at all.

The Angels are in big trouble. Pujols, Hamilton and C.J. Wilson are all going to be liabilities long-term. I don't know offhand how long Wilson is locked up for, but if it's for several more years, LA's rotation will take a big hit. Detroit also will face some big issues down the road. Miguel Cabrera's getting older and now injuries are starting to become a concern with him as well. Fielder is going to slow down significantly over the next few years and you're locked in with Sanchez and Verlander in the rotation, which limits your FA spending. Too much big money is going to those guys for Detroit to realistically be a contender for too much longer.

I don't get why people think that the Tigers are in trouble. Yes they could have a bad year or two at the ends of the long term contracs, but whose to say they don't just have some of the controlled prospects just back fill. They aren't there yet, but they could be a smaller version of the 90s Braves. Consistent winners getting to the playoffs.

And as everyone here has said, just get to the playoffs, the rest can go either way.

no. they are not the 90s braves. So all of a sudden there can be these so called specs that can fill in for the likes of the 2 fatties,1 martinez, and 2 power pitchers waiting to have their arms fall off.

Who said all of a sudden? They have years to develop guys though I am happy that the Sox got one of them.

Given the income LAD has with the contract it's not that big of a risk for them.

it can be if a few of these contracts blow up in their face. all it takes is one hiccup with finances and the franchise could be in trouble.

I still think they can swallow it. Aren;t they getting something stupid like 240 million a year in TV rights?

For sure, both he and Josh Hamilton. I also have a big hunch that the Dodgers are right up there with their recent trade(see Carl Crawford) and the enormous signing of Kershaw. Pitchers are frail and giving the guy that many years is in my book wishful thinking. I really hope that the Giants win that division.
