This weekend is the time for all of us to remember those that have served and made the ultimate sacrifice. These men and women gave their all to ensure we have our freedoms, and to try and provide others with the same freedoms we have. Those of us that have served and are still here, although we appreciate the thank yous, want you to remember this weekend is not about us, but our brothers and sisters in arms that are no longer here. Remember them, as they gave their all for us.

A time to remember

A time to reflect

A time to be thankful

And offer our respect

For the freedom we enjoy

For sacrifices made

For the loved ones we have lost

May their memories never fade

We salute our departed heroes

By placing flags upon their graves

On Memorial Day and always

Old Glory proudly waves.

I enlisted in the Air Force when my birthday came up very high in the draft lottery.. To be honest, I wouldn't have without the threat of receiving a letter inviting me to participate in the Southeast Asian war games from the Army.

Next to meeting Becky, it was one of the best decisions I made in my life.

To those who have served or are serving, thank you.

To those who have been irreparably injured and/or paid the ultimate price, I admire and thank you for your sacrifices.

One of many nicknames they had for me
<
One of the things I missed from my time in, the names we came up with for each other. Shortly after getting to my first boat, I was the de facto LPO for my division, and was quickly nicknamed "grandpa" at a whopping ripe old age of 24.

Mr Bubble, I apologize to you for bringing something of a personal nature on to this thread. It was not my intent to take the focus off the day itself. A few years ago I told the story of my great uncle who was MIA in WWII in the Pacific. Well the other day my mom ran into her cousin and since my mom has no pictures of anyone from her dad's family, her cousin emailed her some which she got this morning One of those pictures was of her Uncle Steve. That is the first time she has ever seen a picture of him. She now has a face to put with the tragedy. So now I will share that picture with all of you In remembrance of him.

Thank you to all branches. You are all a part of the reason I can say **** the government.

I could never serve, as i would either be constantly doing push ups, or having a blanket party in the barracks.

One of my Friends posted this on his Page

"I've played a lot of roles in life; I've met a lot of men. I've done some things I'd like to think I wouldn't do again.

And though I'm young, I'm old enough to know some day I'll die, and to think about what lies bey...ond, Beside whom I would lie.

Perhaps it doesn't matter much; Still if I had my choice, I'd want a grave, amongst sailors when at last death quells my voice.

I'm sick of the hypocrisy of lectures of the wise. I'll take the man, with all the flaws, Who goes through scared, and dies.

The troops I knew were commonplace They didn't want the war; They fought because their Fathers and Their Fathers had before.

They Cursed and killed and wept... God Knows They're easy to deride... But bury me with men like these; They faced the guns and died, Its funny when you think of it, The way we got along.

We'd come from different worlds To live in one were no one belongs. I didn't even like them all; I'm sure they'd all agree. Yet I would give my life for them, I know some did for me.

So bury me with Sailors, please, Though much maligned they be. Yes bury me with Sailors, for I miss their company.

We'll not soon see their likes again; We've had our fill of war. But bury me with men like them Till someone else does more."

To those drafted/forced into war, and to the unfortunate men who were swapped in place of my grandfather and the rest of his crew on D-Day because of an idea and another man's name, a name that saved them and damned others, people who I will never know, my gratitude and respect (and sorrow to those affected families in particular) goes out, as my entire family would probably not even exist today if it weren't for that.
