What are the top 3 things you care about when it comes to how our country is run? Feel free to list them as broad categories or specific things.

Mine:

1. The Fair Tax

2. Illegal Immigration

3. 2nd Amendment

Many of you may think 1 and 2 should be reversed on my list. Here is my reasoning: IF The Fair Tax were passed it would automatically mean that illegals would be paying taxes in the country (except for the millions they send back home) and would help to alleviate the economic strain they put on the country. This doesn't solve the problem of letting them in, but helps the financial strain IMO.

Obviously there are many things to consider when casting a vote (like the fact that they are all lying bastards) but these are my 3 top issues.

1. Reduced government

2. Reduced taxes

3. Constitutional issues. Anti-gun candidates need not apply.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
1: Get rid of the Democrats

2: Get rid of the Republicans

3: Get rid of all political parties and have people elected by their own stances and merit rather than dumbing it down for the status quo.

I can dream, can't i?

Nobody said your "dreams" had to be realistic. I think we all have that feeling that nothing can be changed and that is hugely what is responsible for the status not changing.

I wouldnt mind anarchy as it is defined. Dumbass teenagers wanting anarchy think it is something completely different than what it is.

The frontier west including the frontier towns from the mid to late 1800's is actually a pretty pristine example of what anarchy actually is.

Anarchy isn't "every man for himself, do whatever you want". It literally cannot happen, maybe for a short time in a transition period, but not long term.

likminded people inherently group together and form a common law.

Small communites existing with their own common law, they may have a leader or a committee to make decisions. but that is essentially what anarchy is. Frontier towns in the old west were for the most part outside the reach and protection of the federal government, So the old west was in a state of anarchy despite, not being people rioting in the streets, raping murdering and pillaging left and right. When outlaws and bandits violated their common the the people hired bounty hunters or formed posse's to bring them to justice, due to being outside the federal reach, these criminals rarely got a fair trial and were subject to the justice deemed by the people with whom they wronged.

But then anarchy forever is impossible as well, because eventually small community X decides small community Y threatens them or they dont like their value system and want to impose their will so they go take over small community Y, and it propels from there you'll have city states then states, empires and countries.

TSD, thanks for the explanation of anarchy. I'm glad you posted it because I love it when people say that if all guns are legalized then we will turn into "The Wild West". The only thing they know about that period is the fake stuff they see on tv/the movie screen.

As I posted on a different thread, I'd kinda like to move out in the middle of nowhere and have the gov't just leave me the hell alone. Since that isn't going to happen, I want them to have as limited power and involvement in my life as possible.

Agreed, alot of the violence in the west wasn't due to the fact everyone had a gun. It was due to how loosely "self-defense" was interpreted in frontier court systems. Two guys with a gun get into an argument, it didnt matter who drew first one of em shoots the other dead and it was extremely likely the killer would get off on self defense.

On top of that the reputations of famed wild west personalities were greatly exagerated even in their own time. So the violence wasn't even as bad as commonly portrayed, the problem is there is no history class in school about the old west so all most lay people have to go on is what they read in novels and movies.

i.e. the "gunfight" as we have come to know it was a complete invention of hollywood. People didnt go out at high noon and draw. Gun fights were not set up it usually stemmed from a disagreement one guy pulls out his weapon and starts shooting, if it wasnt a gun it would have been a knife, if not a knife a club, if not a club bare hands.

the funny thing is gunfighters who actually have a an actual historically acurate reputation as gunfighter, are practical unknowns. Luke Short for one (while still exagerrated) was quite the hardended killer with the 6 gun but I bet many of you havent ever heard of him. Wyatt Earp really was only in the OK corral scrap, even then its questionable as to whether he and his brothers were the "good guys". Their arch rivals, the clanton brothers had never been in a gun fight in their lives prior to the OK corral, and they are commonly portrayed as hardened killers.

Sorry to hijack the thread.
