Add Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni to the list of those who have Derrick Rose as rookie of the year. ''Yeah, I think so,'' D'Antoni said, ''because his team is making the playoffs. He's led them; being a point guard is a lot of responsibility. He's done a terrific job. So, in my book, he is. He will be a great player; he's a really good player now. He's got great legs, is a playmaker, and his shot is getting better.''

It would be shocking if Rose didn't win at this point. Rose's improved play and the Bulls improved play over the final month of the season and being the only team in the playoff hunt with a significant rookie on it will seal it.

Good to hear that from D'Antoni. I agree with him completely. The Bulls hot finish sealed the deal as far as I'm concerned. Plus even with all he's already accomplished Rose still has the most upside of anyone in the rookie class. He's the only one that has a legitimate shot at superstardom, having shown flashes already. I wouldn't be surprised if the voting isn't even close.

It will be interesting to see how the voting goes. I wonder how often the voters actually saw these rookies play? The one thing that really is the standout difference for Rose, in my opinion, is that he's put up these numbers all year. Also, when the league adjusted to him, he seems to have adjusted to that as well. So now, he's putting up silat numbers while getting double teamed all the time.

On the other hand, I was watching MSG for this last game and Frazier was just DUMB. He probably still hates Bulls I think.

I think Mike Breen was the other announcer who said, Rose is my ROY and asked Frazier, and he said, I will go with Mayo. Then Mike asked why? and Frazier's comments were BEYOND STUPID.

He said of Mayo vs Rose "Because he is a better shooter and....he is taller." I was like WTF???

Then he started complaining about Rose's dribble (and didn't see that Rose had a BAD WRIST so he wasn't sharp with dribbling) but he just jumped to conclusions. He said Rose can't hit a jumper. and that's when Rose hit couple of jumpers and I was laughing my *** off.

I just hate these people. I don't mind him voting for Mayo but his reasonings were BEYOND STUPID.

At this point, there's no way Rose won't win the ROY. Westbrook cooled down, OJ Mayo stayed stagnant, and Brook Lopez improved, but was the third option on a non-playoff team. Rose stayed consistent, even carried the team on several occasions, and plays a more difficult position.

When is the last time a rookie got this much recognition from coaches and elite players, but not the refs?

Frazier is an idiot plain and simple, he is afraid to compliment a Bull or bash a Knicks because of his Boss. He is a has been who still thinks he is a star. As for Mike Rose doesn't need his compliments.

You should have herd him when Chris Duhon was playing well for them, you though he was calling a Hornets game and CP3 was going off.

Crackdown on gladiator impersonators in Rome

By ALESSANDRA RIZZO

Associated Press

ROME (AP) -- Undercover police have donned togas, capes and sandals to stop a turf battle among Italians who impersonate gladiators outside the Colosseum and other landmarks in Rome and make money by posing for camera carrying tourists.

The trade has been tolerated for years, but that was before about 20 of the practitioners began assaulting and intimidating their competitors to take over lucrative tourist spots such as the Colosseum, the Forum and the Vatican, officials and police said Friday.

So police decided to intervene disguised as gladiators, garbage collectors and tourists, but their operation at the ancient arena and the nearby Piazza Venezia wasn't easy.

On Wednesday, police impersonating gladiators were attacked when they told competitors to leave the scene, but police dressed as garbage collectors and tourists came to their rescue.

The Rome newspaper Il Messaggero said one suspect demanded the money a woman tourist had paid for a photo of herself with a gladiator, but it turned out the pair in the photograph were both undercover officers.

Italian media carried photos or TV footage showing a handcuffed gladiator being taken away and a policeman pretending to be a tourist wrapping an arm around a gladiator's neck.

None of the civilian gladiators were arrested while the probe continues.

Police estimate that about 30 such tradesmen are scattered around Rome's top tourist attractions on a normal day, the majority around the Colosseum, where in the city's ancient glory days real gladiators engaged in combat to the thrill of the masses.

In future, such crackdowns may be easier.

Antonio Gazzellone, the mayor's point man for tourism, said there are no regulations controlling the activity of such gladiators but that parliament is considering a law that would allow police to quickly intervene in case of aggressive behavior by the impersonators.
